After Google decided to take all Nest Gen 1 and Gen 2 thermostats offline on the same day simply because it's time for everyone to buy a new smart thermostat, I'm staying away from Google's physical products.

Same deal with the Nest security system. They literally bricked the devices just so they could pass the business off to ADT and make people buy hardware again that requires a service contract.
I'll keep what I have while it works, but if any camera ever goes offline, I'm just moving to self-hosted unifi.

I'm torn. I had one go out and used the credit from Google shutting down nest to buy a new one. I then had my second og outdoor one go out recently. I don't really need that one but it also doesn't save me any money by not having that camera online. I don't feel like paying hundreds for a new system and the current system overall does work well and is pretty seamless. But it works on my Apple devices with the starling hub which is a huge perk.

I regret getting into the google ecosystem. Continuous streaming history is now $200/yr, which is pretty much mandatory since the event detection is such crap.
