Is it better to get "Idemitsu ATF" fluid or "Valvoline Hybrid ATF" for 2017 Rav4 Hybrid?
I'd go with the cheaper fluid and change often, 25K to 30K miles. Both are compatible with WS, but the Idemitsu is probably a closer match to the factory fill. Note that fluid viscosity and formulation can vary slightly from batch to batch.
The transmission is essentially a sealed system (minus the vent valve). Therefore, controlling fluid temperature and cleanliness will dramatically improve transmission life. CHANGE ATF OFTEN. Drain and refill. Avoid flushing operation. Drain/refill will usually replace 25% to 30% of total fluid capacity.
Idemitsu is, and has been for decades, an official O.E. supplier of engine oils and transmission fluids to leading Japanese vehicle manufacturers such as Toyota, Subaru, Nissan, Mitsubishi, Mazda, Lexus, Infiniti, Honda and Acura.
Ordered the Toyota WS a few days ago for home shipping and it was cancelled due to incorrect inventory count.
We ordered from S Cal yesterday. Got shipping confirmation this morning. Stuff is heavy, so AAP may not have a local warehouse in the East Coast? OK. SDers just wiped out the WS supply.
I've had this fluid in my cart for a few weeks now at this price, I have an older Toyota and wasn't sure if they are type 4 fluid would cause any issues, my car has over 200,000 mi, I don't know when the last time the previous owner serviced it. Was planning on doing a drain and fill

Auto transmission works on fluid friction. Old fluid has more friction. Fresh fluid may cause slippage. Toyota Aisin transmission is quite robust. WS is backward compatible to T-IV.
If the transmission does not slip, then drain only 1/2 to 1 qt and replace the EXACT amount drained with WS. Drive 500 miles to check for slippage. Repeat every 500 miles until the drained fluid is no longer dark brown.

I drain/refill T-IV truck with WS. No problem after +125K miles. WS is the replacement fluid for T-IV.
My Corolla comes with T-IV. Drain/fill with WS since 2009. No issue after 210K miles on odometer.
