There's a good chance that third-party hacks to intercept the data for logging likely work on this model also.
Is there a model that just uses a phone so I'm not pahing extra for the screen/monitor (tho I understand how that could be handy)?

It works with the hub which gives you access to their backend statistics for day/week/month totals and graphs. Also well worth it.

Basically if you care about bringing these weather stations into Home Assistant, look for one that is transmitting on 915/868/433MHz, and then google around to see if the Ecowitt supports it. Most of the white label ones it does. Ironically the cheaper the weather station the more likely it is to work out of the box, the more expensive ones with WiFi/Bluetooth/etc need their own integration which is often worse than Ecowitt.
