According to the camel, this matches the lowest pricing since 2017 AND hasn't been this low in some time so should go FP. ... Except for the limited number of weather geeks out there? 😄

There's a good chance that third-party hacks to intercept the data for logging likely work on this model also.

Goodness...there sure are a bunch of Acurite models. Their website has a "compare" feature but doesn't work very well on mobile browser, it seems.

Is there a model that just uses a phone so I'm not pahing extra for the screen/monitor (tho I understand how that could be handy)?

I've been using the Iris model for 4-5 years now. IT's great when it works but I'll be honest, it dies about every 12-16 months and you have to replace it. NO warning, just KAPUT. Mine is dead now and I've been hunting, can't decide if I should get another or change lol

Probably would cost more, it's somewhat deceiving but everything color and fancy looking is just static background art. The display is just a handful of LCD objects that illuminate to show you the weather and temps etc. It's not like a "smart device" or anything like that. Biggest savings would be to go to one with less features (I got ours on a SD for like 35-40 bucks but it doesn't have the lightning detector or the rain gauge functions).

I was given this as a gift two years ago, but haven't set it up because there are so many requirements to where you can put the thing outside! It has to be a certain distance away from everything, but a certain distance up in the air.

The self emptying rain gauge is worth it just by itself, The wind speed/direction is OK but so what.

It works with the hub which gives you access to their backend statistics for day/week/month totals and graphs. Also well worth it.

Ambient Weather is much better then Accurite. I've had both, Accurite rain gauge stopped working for me and now temperature has been stuck at 55. Garbage

This one claims it works on the standard 433 MHz, so there is a fair chance it may be detected by an e.g. Ecowitt GW1100. If that is the case, then you can trivially integrate this into Home Assistant and then by extension Homekit (although Homekit itself only supports temp + humidity, not rain/wind/lightning).

Basically if you care about bringing these weather stations into Home Assistant, look for one that is transmitting on 915/868/433MHz, and then google around to see if the Ecowitt supports it. Most of the white label ones it does. Ironically the cheaper the weather station the more likely it is to work out of the box, the more expensive ones with WiFi/Bluetooth/etc need their own integration which is often worse than Ecowitt.
