These are great for grills that use a 1lbs tank. You'll need an adapter hose too. The grill is still very portable. Also, if you burn weeds with a torch it's much easier to carry one of these around.

Remember that you can get your propane tanks refilled for cheaper than a swap out at some propane companies. We have a local gas station/convience store/hardware store that will refill them cheap.

The only time I swap out a tank (Walmart) is when the tank is too old to be refilled. Saves me the expense of getting an old tank rectified.

Me also. BTW they short you a gallon in those swap tank things. I used to wonder why they ran out so much faster than my refills. Makes the price much worse unless needing a new tank

You only get 3.5 gallons. It really only makes sense to exchange when your existing tank is expired.

It's like a 5gal gas can. It CAN hold 5gal but they can fill it to only 4 3 1. There are youtube and sources that have checked. Next time you buy it you can compare it to an actual full one by tipping it around and weight and know its missing a lot.

You're missing the point. Blue Rhino propane exchange tanks contain 15 pounds of propane, which is approximately 3.5 to 3.6 gallons. While standard 20 lb tanks can hold up to 4.7 gallons (about 20 lbs) when refilled at a station, exchange programs like Blue Rhino fill to a lower capacity (15 lbs).

Here's why Blue Rhino exchange tanks are a ripoff. My local Walmart exchanges the Blue Rhino tanks for $19.92. That's $5.69 per gallon. My local Tractor Supply refills tanks for $3.69 per gallon.

That's what I said, it only makes sense to exchange if your tank is expired and they won't refill it.

I'm assuming it's the same everywhere, so that tank is good to be refilled for 12 years from that date. I went to get my 20 pound tank refilled yesterday and the guy said it was too old. With the 20 pound tanks you can swap them at gas stations and Home Depot, but what do you do with a 5 pound tank?

I learned that yesterday that new tanks are only good to be refilled for 12 years and I assume the ones you get at gas stations and Home Depot have been recertified and those are only good to be refilled for 5 years. Mine was one I got from a gas station originally and I figured it would be cheaper to get it filled than swap it, but they said it was too old. So I guess I'm stuck with swapping it again. No going to pay $80 for a new 20 pound tank that it will be junk in 12 years.
