These are great headsets at a stellar price. Very comfortable and battery lasts forever. I actually prefer these for long gaming sessions vs my Sony XM5.

For initial setup and customization, you should use the app. There's also a custom hearing mode which tests your hearing on both sides to see what frequencies you can properly hear or not, and it adjusts audio so you can better hear. It does improve the sound quality quite a bit in my opinion. But outside of the initial setup, I never really touch the app aside from checking for firmware updates every once in a while.

Since there are almost no brick and mortar stores to try out headphones before you buy, a lot of people will just buy from Amazon knowing they can return if they don't like them. Sound is a very subjective thing, so there are always going be people who don't like a specific headphone no matter how good most people think it is.

I don't know how those sound, but physical buttons and wheel are always a huge plus in my book. I hate touch controls.
