Probably a good edger, just be aware 15" is a smaller swath. It's a smaller unit (that's what she said)

Good deal if you need the battery, if not wait for the carbon version with power reload tool only. I went from original trimmer to the latest and it's a game changer.

That one doesn't have variable speed though unless they changed the mechanism and it costs $80 more. Different tastes I guess.

Mines a 15" carbon fiber and has variable speed control so maybe they've been changing features?

Oh okay I thought they only made it in aluminum or it's still oos. Is it really that big of a change in the weight or just for durability?

The weight is night and day but the biggest upgrade (IMO) was the power load. I also bought a 3rd party aluminum handle(https://a.co/d/0ejptfKe) and it's been equally a game changer since I'm tall.

I just realized this isn't even the powerload model lol, I got my kit at Ace for $180 and thought this was the same thing. Not sure why you would want one without it unless you're worried about it failing, but I guess different needs. Also that handle attachment is cool I might have to try it out!

Terrible as an edger. Whoever said that has no clue you have to buy the multi head model and the edger attachment for this brand. As a trimmer it is very aggressive so it eats through string quickly and replacing the string is difficult. Also it is more awkward in weight.

Ego makes good products but not good trimmers.

As someone already said, this would be a good battery grab and just to have a backup trimmer.

I'm in the market for a new trimmer, what would you recommend?

It does handle a little different when used as an edger vs other trimmers but it's not that difficult to be honest, I found that walking on the grass works better for less feedback and before mowing. I also just found an Etsy store that sells an edger wheel attachment too so there are other options. That multi-head edger takes some practice to use, I tried it out before deciding to just go with the standalone. Wasn't interested in the Line IQ attachment for the trimmer.

I picked up the refurbished deal on Ebay a few weeks ago. So far it seems great. I got it for $100, but I think this price is fair.

I also got the refurb from ebay. Not strong enough for some of the brush and thick grass. Ill look into a brush cutter blade .
