This isn't an OLED tv. It's an LED tv. For the size and price, it's decent, even in a moderately bright room. The viewing angles are not great apparently. But it's 98 inches.... so I don't think that would be that large of a concern- this will take up an entire wall and you shouldn't have much angled viewing lol. That said, this doesn't match the quality of an OLED tv panel. But a 98 OLED tv would cost significantly more than this. LG makes a 97 inch OLED and it's 17,000$ lol.

Don't tell me you gonna buy a $1k 98" tv and worry about the sound! Sound you can upgrade, easily but you can't upgrade the picture.

TCL - 98" Class Q55K Series vs Hisense 100 inch U6 Series. From what I can read is Hisense 100 inch U6 Series is better option and at 1299 at costco with the All state insurance for 5 year.

This 98 inch TCL Q55K is mainly about getting a huge, immersive screen for around $1,000, especially if the alternative is a projector or a much pricier OLED. The size and price look strong for a moderately bright room, and the panel can feel impressive when viewed straight on. The main knocks are weak viewing angles, no local dimming, and sound that really benefits from a separate soundbar and subwoofer. It is a big-screen value play, not an OLED replacement.

Common Questions (5)

For a 98-inch screen, $1,000 is considered a strong value, especially if you were otherwise looking at a projector-sized setup. The tradeoff is that it makes the most sense when you truly need the size and can sit far enough back to benefit from it.

It is an LED TV, not OLED, and it does not have local dimming. The picture can be decent for the size and price, especially in a moderately bright room, but it will not match OLED panel quality or contrast.

A minimum viewing distance of about 7 feet is suggested, and the sound is described as reasonable only when you are roughly 10-15 feet away. Sitting closer reduces the immersion benefit and makes a separate soundbar more worthwhile.

It can work in a moderately bright room, but the viewing angles are not great. Live sports may also look lower in quality, so picture settings may need adjustment for better upscaling and motion.
s0liciting_seagull qwerty47
A separate soundbar with a subwoofer is recommended for the best experience. The built-in sound is only described as reasonable at about 10-15 feet, so external audio helps a lot on a screen this large.

Sound is reasonable when you are within 10 -15 feet viewing distance. Best to use a separate sound bar with subwoofer for best experience. Try playing with the display and sound settings for enhanced image upscaling and sound output otherwise live sports has lower image quality. Using one bought during superbowl and found out about live sports issue.

Thanks! We'll be mostly watching movies. Plan is to eventually upgrade to a 3.2.4 (already have in-ceiling speakers) but we have to finish getting furniture setup before I worry about any of that.

I would avoid unless you really need that big of a TV. Instead get a 77 inch OLED. I remember the LG 77 inch A series was $800 at Micro Center.
