Likely at night in the middle of nowhere you'd get that range. All local conditions dependent pretty much.

Set them to the same channel and you can have as many radios as you want "linked" together.

oh batteries are dirt cheap these days, and do you have a link to share of a set like this at this price point that IS rechargeable?

SOLUTIONS, not problems. If you haven't a solution to the problem then why post?
He added helpful information that some people may find important. How is that a problem?

No FRS radio can have a detachable antenna. If you want a detachable antenna, buy a GMRS radio, get a GMRS user's license, and still use the FRS/GMRS frequencies.

Any kind of battery that you can swap out is probably better than one that is built-in when you're using a handheld transceiver. A four pack AA batteries and charger kit are about $10 to $20 on Amazon.

Why even bother with the worthless license or care about if the antenna is removable or not, the FCC isn't going to track you down to inspect if the antenna has threads or if your "family license" of up to 10 users are actually your real family members or not.

I prefer this because the kids don't have to wait to charge when the battery dies. I just swap out rechargeable AA batteries that I originally bought when I needed an endless supply of batteries for their baby toys. Plus, I've found that for products that we'll only use a few times a year, like during camping or outdoor activities, built in rechargeable batteries don't last when not used often and then you're forced to replace the whole product because the rechargeable batteries are not replaceable.I'd rather keep the product for years and just use rechargeable AA/AAA batteries.
