The NCN I assume is the color version .. and it is not, it is the Signature one whichever that means ... but I binge read sometimes so maybe I'll just wait til dust settles before upgrading or just settling for reading on my iPad?

This was cheaper a year or so ago. Well worth the $30 then. With cash back it was about $22. However why does it take 15 seconds to turn on? My really old kindle power on instantly. And even the UI is slower with these new models. I like the light though, my old model has to use a add on case light

Wow bricking stuff?
Yes, bricking 15+ year old tech items. I say it was a heck of a run, as pissed as I am.

2021+14 years... so in 2035, likely. But who knows.

I mean, that is a good run, better than any other tech these days.

These are a good deal when you consider the current price of the newer Kindles. I have so many books on my old Kindles that it will take me years to read them even after they remove support. According to the Amazon email regarding these old Kindles, you can continue to use them to read books you have already downloaded.

" * You can continue to read books already downloaded on these devices, but you will not be able to purchase, borrow, or download additional books on them after that date.
* All your other apps and Amazon services on the device will not be impacted. "

It is all over, may 20th they will shut off access to Amazon servers from the older Kindles. That means no Libby as they use Amazon for the book loan.Ignore the typo in the sub header, but this article has the details. Received emails on both of our Kindles last week.https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2...new-books/
Well I guess I'll see what happens. I didn't get an email and I bought mine October 17, 2014. Too lazy to figure out which generation it is since Amazon can't be bothered to tell me either.

Thanks for the info

*edit*
According to the linked article my kindle is on the cut off firmware version. Also on that same device info page on the kindle it shows that I have a 6th gen. 🤷

Be careful, Amazon is bricking a lot of Kindles. They might be trying to offload a batch of them before they're ewaste.
I wonder if woot provides any warranty...?

  1. Jailbreak that old Kindle being obsoleted. https://www.zdnet.com/article/you...-its-done/ good step-by-step overview on zdnet referring to the files available for the longest time on Mobiread forums.
  2. That'll get you Kual etc installed, allowing viewing of any ebook file you want to sideload.
  3. Libraries - https://github.com/cyberchicken1231/kLibby open-source Libby alternative for Jailbroken kindles.
  4. Mobiread forums
https://www.mobileread.com/forums/ for further info etc on Kindles and other ereaders.
  5. Boox, etc - why Aren't you all on a fully open ebook reader to begin with?? Eg. Boox runs Android, so you can install and run the Amazon, Kobo, etc ebook apps all at once - even two+ apps in multi-window mode. Buy and read from any store of your choice, load any Android web browser and store, even load and play any music (local or streaming) from any source, watch YouTube videos (in b&w or color depending on the ebook reader screen), etc. Even load Microsoft Office and you can write your own masterpieces for publication. Some even have 4G sim, enabling use as a text or calling device.

Does scratch and dent mean on the screen too, or just the body?

Calibre works just dandy for these. FWIW!
I was gonna say… Who cares about jailbreaking or third-party apps? As long as you can use that, you can easily throw on any E pub you can find

🤣 ...no, they do not.

...actually a 90 day warranty. Which you'll need, since they were "refurbished" by a damp cloth.
