I picked up one of these about a week ago for this price. I got it because I was so incredibly disappointed with the Meater+ I got for Christmas. The Meater+ is the worst probe and app I have ever used.
This device has been great, their prediction algorithm is much better than Meater. The range has been good, and I appreciate that the device can be used without your phone. It won't give you as much data, but you can still see the temps on the device itself.
The real game-changer is the 5 temperature sensors inside the meat. So it can automatically find the mid-point if you overshoot it.
I did struggle to get the app installed from Thermomaven, though. Google thought it didn't support my phone on Android 13, so I had to side-load it from APKpure. Worked great after I got it installed.
Overall, no regrets. Hopefully it lasts, there were many Amazon reviews where people were showing off their broken devices.

"Why don't people buy something that is 4 times the price instead of this comparable product that has pretty solid reviews and experiences?"
These are way cheaper and for many of us have worked very well.

Better range on the G2 but slightly thicker probes than the P2. I went P2 because of probe thickness, have had for 1.5 years and still loving it. Just don't rely on the time estimate, it's far too inaccurate with either, use the temperature only

Received this and i really like the form factor. It's nice to have the option to use your phone. You get the meat temp AND ambient temp with 1 probe , i thought that was great.

I agree that Thermoworks is pretty much the gold standard, but there are tradeoffs. The price is very high, and I would prefer to have a better performing/longer lasting device, but there's a threshold. Just depends on how much higher they cost. I've heard decent things about Thermomaven, but they're a cheaper alternative and will likely have more issues (I've heard ambient temp can't be relied on, but internal temp is great. Also heard about battery life dropping very quick with use, so future cooks you'll have to swap probes out faster). If Thermoworks had a 4-probe setup that had a standalone unit along WITH the app functionality, had the "sub-1g" wireless, and was less than $200, I'd jump on it. But at $290-$400, it's tough to justify

I bought the Thermomaven and had to write to Amazon for an exception to return it after 30 days.
The app is wonky and it makes a loud beep whenever the base disconnects from the probes.

I got one from this brand, pretty similar to this one and returned it because the probes are to thick.
For something like fish, burgers or steak < than 1 inch it will be really difficult.
