Just wanted to add a data point.

This worked for me today in Texas for an S26+.

I went to Walmart and bought the Moto G 2025 64gb, turned it on and got to the home screen, went to spectrum and traded it in.

Spectrum had to select "Other" for carrier and I got the $400 off plus $705 for the trade in. It seems like taxes were on the price of the phone minus the trade in value, so taxed on $395 at 8.25% taxes were $32.58.

In total I paid $27.57 to Spectrum (1100-400-705=-5 +32.58 tax)

On top of that I paid Walmart $32.35.

So all in was $59.92.

It's instant in the spectrum stores. Online it takes a few weeks.

I think this is one of the cheapest, easiest to purchase phone that qualifies for $705.

I did follow exactly what you suggested, and got it done with full discount! The phone box is still sealed ... haha. Thanks!!
you will still need to open it and activate it to start the 60 day unlock timer unless you don't care about that

Just did this successfully.

Yesterday I bought the Walmart Straight Talk Moto g 2025 64GB for $29.88+tax. Turned it on, skipped setting passcode, did system update.

This morning went to spectrum store, told them I'm a current spectrum internet customer, and want to take advantage of the free mobile line, and that I heard the S26+ is on promo with $400 off, and more discounts with trade in. They inspected the Moto g 2025, it passed all checks but "back of device" with the mirror. He tried 3 times. I asked him to try wiping the mirror but he refused and said "it's the system that won't let it pass". Still able to trade in though.

Then I told him I want to pay in full. He told me the $400 is for installments only, and even double checked with his manager who was at the next register and said that was true. I told him I absolutely don't want installments and wanted to proceed with pay in full. He went ahead and pushed some buttons, and then pulled the manager over while pointing at his screen. She acknowledged it and pushed some buttons. Then he told me my total today would be $78.74. I asked to peek at his screen and saw both $400 and $700 came off before paying.

Looking at the printed receipt, the Moto g 2025 was valued at $1. Tax was $79.75.

The store was understaffed with only 2 people working and ~8 people in the line. They didn't have energy to celebrate nor challenge the deal. This is in North Carolina.

I am an existing spectrum Internet customer and have a free line with them. Can I use this offer on that line or should I open a new line for 60 days? What is the most cost effective option for me

NC. I assume they taxed the 700.
I'm in SC. While the Spectrum website also charges tax on the full price if you order online for us in SC, completing the trade-in at a physical store in SC reduces the sales tax (just like the original poster in TX mentioned). I just went in store this morning in SC and confirm this in-store tax reduction specifically applies to SC only not NC.

South Carolina (SC): Under South Carolina Code Section 12-36-90, the value of secondhand property transferred to a vendor as a trade-in is excluded from the taxable "gross proceeds of sales." If the trade-in is processed at the register, you only pay tax on the $400 difference.

North Carolina (NC): North Carolina is the outlier. N.C. General Statute § 105-164.3 explicitly defines the taxable "sales price" by stating, "The amount of any credit for trade-in is not a reduction of the sales price." Therefore, in NC, you are legally required to pay sales tax on the full $1,400, regardless of your $1,000 trade-in.

How did they still take the trade even though it failed the test?

I've done this twice now and it worked flawlessly both times. I traded in a cheap phone (pixel 5) with a $5 value and received the full promotional credit without any issues. If you are an existing Spectrum Internet customer, this is a total no-brainer—I only had to pay for the taxes upfront, and the checkout process was seamless. For anyone on the fence, it's a legit way to snag a Galaxy S26+ for basically nothing."

What are you smoking? The Ultra definitely comes with the S-Pen. Its built-in ya Jackwagon!
Yeah I'm old school and still on the S9+. I do everything on the 32" computer screen vs a cell phone. I know I saw something about it on the phone but I thought there was also a pen like apple has. This phone is definitely greek to me so I have a learning curve on it but still basically using it for calls and texts and not much else other then a few games.

I don't know. I didn't pressure him. I asked "can it still be used for trade in" he said yes. I also didn't need to tell him to choose "other" as carrier.

Might be easier to port in going to store if you need it done immediately. In store if you pay in full only tax, activation, monthly phone charge is due.
