Just wanted to add a data point.

This worked for me today in Texas for an S26+.

I went to Walmart and bought the Moto G 2025 64gb, turned it on and got to the home screen, went to spectrum and traded it in.

Spectrum had to select "Other" for carrier and I got the $400 off plus $705 for the trade in. It seems like taxes were on the price of the phone minus the trade in value, so taxed on $395 at 8.25% taxes were $32.58.

In total I paid $27.57 to Spectrum (1100-400-705=-5 +32.58 tax)

On top of that I paid Walmart $32.35.

So all in was $59.92.

It's instant in the spectrum stores. Online it takes a few weeks.

I think this is one of the cheapest, easiest to purchase phone that qualifies for $705.

Opened a $20 line and got an s26+ for $22 including the $20 activation fee. Coincidentally my billing day is the 19th so if I want to keep the $20 line open to unlock have to pay for the full three months. My trade in was worth $720. Same store that I was turned away from on Friday so you never know. Said I could keep the phone unactivated in the box if I wanted to but had it opened and activated to start the 60 day unlock. In retrospect, should have left it unactivated till the 14 day return window closed. Thanks for the good information on this thread and good luck to people who are still trying to get this deal done.
Why should you have left it unactivated until the 14 days return window closed? Im going to add home internet and open a few lines today. Ty

I've never returned a phone to spectrum but perhaps it's related to the restocking fee? Maybe it's different opened versus unopened?

Online or in-store? In store, not many, infact very few people had managed to get a second $700 discount on the same line. You can definitely try your luck. Online, it might show a $700 discount but your email confirmation might not show that discount. I m olso on a same boat as you. My attempt to trade in second time on the same line failed in store. I am still on the fence whether I should go ahead with online instead.

Just did this. Bought a Moto G 2025 for $30 (walmart).

Traded-in and got a S26+ paying about $30 Out of the door. I was expecting to pay taxes for the price of the phone. But there weren't any. Awesome deal!!!

This deal is even better than last year. You straight get a S26+ without multiple trade ins.

I live in a state where you only pay tax after the discounts but the employee signed me up for payment plans and I was charged full tax for the s26+. Will that tax be refunded after I pay them off in full? Also how long before the credits show up on my account if I paid the phones off today?

You did pay taxes but only on 394.99, you will see that if you check your bill and do the math.

So we can do one trade in per line and can't do multiple on same line(if free line) same day or next day in store?
Better option is to open new line(total cost is 20+20 I guess+ tax) and keep for 60 days to unlock or any other way to keep the cost less?

Because of the restocking fee. Rep mentioned to me that people like to give these unopened as gifts. Had not thought of that either. Glad I activated it yesterday because the way my billing cycle is it will hit 60 days at the end of the second month. Would like to not have to pay for the third month.

$20 activation fee plus 2 or 3 months of $20 each month depending on how your billing cycle syncs. They prorate going in but don't prorate going out. No tax on the $20 monthly

Yes.

You are correct. I was expecting to pay taxes on $1099, because if you do it online via mail. The taxes were ~$100 ish.
