Lol and marketing never lies. This has 680m. I have a laptop with the 8845HS which has 780m which is 10-25% more powerful but it's not playing all games at HD. It's barely playing some games and lucky to hit 30fps.

This is not a gaming PC.

"Gaming" is a broad term. The Ryzen 7735HS is probably not that far from the PS4 in gaming performance. Granted, the PS4 and most of its games were highly optimized for each other. As another commenter mentioned, the 7735HS in this probably makes it somewhere around 50% more powerful than the Steam Deck. And it would be weird to say that playing games on the Steam Deck is out of the question.

This type of system is essentially a non-portable laptop. You aren't wasting resources on things like the integrated display, keyboard, and battery. The components are tuned to be less power hungry than a desktop. And it is small enough to mount on the back of your monitor or under your desk.

There are limitations. Like a laptop, they offer far less expansion than a desktop PC. And at the same time, they don't offer the same portability as a laptop since it lacks a screen, keyboard, and battery. But for use cases where you want a stationary system to use at a desk with a full size display, keyboard, and mouse, mini PCs are good alternatives to larger desktops.

This would be plenty of power for everyday use and do very well with non demanding games like fortnite, Minecraft, etc. If you're into playing the latest modern 3d games from the past few years, they'll run, but typically at the lowest possible settings.

4060 costs close to what this entire system costs. Crazy to try to compare that.
I referred to the 4060 because the other guy said the 780m is as powerful as a budget Nvidia card which is simply not true at all. People need to stop lying about the igpu. Is it powerful yes but it's nowhere near dedicated.

As a home server for video playback it would be best to get Intel for QuickSync for fast transcoding.

Gt 1030 or 3050 is a budget card. Not a 4060.

i play tetris and minesweeper. so that's gaming to me.

gaming in today's sense isn't a relevant term. keep in mind that 680M actually is very close to the NVDA's 860M found in the Dell's alienware steam machine. so if you consider alienware alpha R1 steam machine running windows is a gaming machine (per Dell's term), then this running windows could also be named gaming machine.

The RAM is going for like half of the purchase price. Slick deal.
That said, I will never understand why these compact boxes don't add a PCIe riser and allow adding a 75W dGPU. This with an Nvidia RTX3050 would be solid for gaming, which most people ask for. Or the Intel Arc 380 would make a very awesome HTPC.

Since the Steam Deck has been brought up a few times, it's worth noting that the Deck runs at a much lower resolution (720p) than a typical monitor (1080p is usually baseline these days) which is part of why it can get away with games on less beefy hardware. As others have pointed out though, this will still likely do fine with older games and even some newer ones with bells and whistles turned down. It would be perfect for retro/arcade emulation for those interested.

Personally, I use a similar system as a Proxmox host for some home server use cases. For example, I run Home Assistant, a media server, PiHole, etc. off it, and it works great for that purpose.

This makes a good Home Assistant server with NVR or other things? Looking to start a HA server. Thanks!

How's it's performance compare to a 10 yr old i5-7500/32G DDR3/1050ti desktop setup?
