Kinda,they show the image by using LEDs and a flap that moves, kinda like those toy fans that play music with an animation. You play with an animal ( or whatever the characters are) and feed it. My sister has 3 different types, she loves them, they are pretty finicky tho

My oldest child got my 9 year old one of these for his birthday, and he loves it. The tech itself is almost some kind of sorcery, it's a rapidly moving led flap that looks like a hologram, very cool.
