I did this a month ago and got an S26 the same way. I'll do the S26 Ultra tomorrow on the same line.
I do in-store, though. Sales tax is applied differently (since your trade-in is evaluated and applied right away) as opposed to doing it online and waiting for the promo credit to hit.
If you're paying in full, there is nothing involving "3 years" at all. It's paid.
If you do it online, you pay the FULL sales tax of the device and the credit is applied later, no sales tax refunded.
I will literally save something like $95 doing it in-store rather than online.

How are you able to get setvice discount and activation charge waiver?
Nice, didn't know about the AU technique. So you had your own account and were AU on other accts... but when they pull up your info with your phone number, which account do they see? Also, you still need access to their primary number on file to get the OTP, right (for phone activation)?
So you're going to have to get those phones placed back on your friends' lines in order to unlock them
