No. $400 off the top. S26 Ultra is $899 already (not $1299). Get a cheap prepaid phone (I have a Galaxy A03s), they'll give me $5 + $700 promo credit = $705. My total will end up being $194 + tax. Pay in full. There's no way I would give up my S25 Ultra in this case. It's worth more selling on the private market.
I did this a month ago and got an S26 the same way. I'll do the S26 Ultra tomorrow on the same line.
I do in-store, though. Sales tax is applied differently (since your trade-in is evaluated and applied right away) as opposed to doing it online and waiting for the promo credit to hit.

No. Pay the cost of the phone at checkout, send in your trade-in and you'll get the FULL value applied to your account. You can call/chat and have that credit applied as a refund to your credit card.
If you're paying in full, there is nothing involving "3 years" at all. It's paid.

Yes! And it's MUCH better. At least in TX and many other states, you make out a lot better because you only pay sales tax on the amount AFTER your trade-in is applied.
If you do it online, you pay the FULL sales tax of the device and the credit is applied later, no sales tax refunded.
I will literally save something like $95 doing it in-store rather than online.

Just came from Spectrum Noho West. At first said no S26u in stock and that I can buy it there, and they'll mail me S26u, and I do the return process via mail. I said I might as well just do it all online and started to walk away. Then says they might have something in stock (they work by commission) and "found" a s26u. Starts the process.. gave them the moto g 2025 from Walmart... tells me the out of pocket with taxes is like $156. I'm thinking it should be a little over $300 something if it took the $700 trade in + $400 discount + taxes but charged me $156. I said sure! but then saw on the receipt that the remaining difference is spread out the 3 years. I said.. umm.. nope. Need to pay the whole thing now, please. Proceeds to tell me that the only way to get both the trade-in credit and $400 off is through spreading the remaining payments in three years. I said nope.. refund me what I paid. Give me my Moto G 2025 back and I'll buy it online instead. I remember he was mumbling the whole time while processing in the trade-in.. like scanning the QR.. using a mirror to take pics of the w/ the moto G's camera etc. That's when I figured out the whole commission thing, that they'd rather say they don't have stock, get commission to sell it to you by doing the order through the store, hoping you'd just send in the trade-in phone so they don't have to do a trade-in at the store. I was there for more than an hour. Hoping this doesn't ruin me trying to do it online since they punched in the IMEI of the Moto G as a trade in. I might just stick w/ my S24u if nothing works out. Props to others where it worked in-store.
Went to 2 stores in California, both told me there is no phone. One even made up some weird shit that because there are recently been a lot of break ins, we don't stock phones in the store anymore and get me a number to call. They even play dumb saying that they are not aware of the promotion for existing customer by saying it only applies to new customer after both stores looked up my account knowing that I am upgrading phones on my existing lines. These people starting to act like sales people in car dealerships.

Yeah sucks it happened to you. .. it's really bad. it sucks. To update this post.. the Moto G 2025 that they attempted to do the trade-in store did mess up my onine trade-in. I logged into my spectrum account and click the link to start the trade in process and the site didn't take my IMEI. I contacted spectrum via chat and since the store did the trade in (i cancelled it all when they said i couldn't get both the discount and trade in offer in store) my IMEI was coming up as part of an existing trade-in. Chat person created a ticket and I got an email 3 days later saying my original trade-in was cancelled and a second email w/ a link to the assurant trade in process. It automatically accepted my IMEI via the link and showed me the options on printing out the labels. So it ultimately worked out online. At this point, don't mess with the in store process because they're just either lazy, don't want to hassle with the return, or cuts into the profits for the store.

I had the same experience. CA stores are all shitty sale reps. Just easier to order online.

@Roundabout, as you have mentioned it's your second year free plan and still you were able to get this offer on the free line, if you could help to explain, if I am on the free plan, how can I avail this type of offer on the same free line as I am already using it. Or instead I may need to add a new line with min $20/m?

In my case, I had the free line that I got last year, which expired in late Feb. I ported the number out before I got charged when the free time ran out. Since this deal for the cheap phones came along, I went in and purchased the S26U, and (unrelated) saw that I was eligible for a free line for a year again. As others have noted, it seems to be a "loophole" in the system if you cancel/port out, that soon after (maybe a day, maybe 30 days?) you're able to get the free line again for another year. If you're on the free plan now, wait until it's about to expire, port your number out for a month (to be sure) to someplace like US Mobile, then check your Spectrum account. Most likely, you'll see the offer for another free year become available to you. Some here have even said they were able to get another free year by chatting with an agent without even porting out - you could try that and if it doesn't work, just port out and get your free year again anyway. Hope that helps.

Thanks. This helps. However, I had a negative experience with us mobile port out in the same month of port in as they were not ready to give me transfer pin details citing it's less than 30 days. Have you tried this in first month and got success with us mobile?

Yeah, US Mobile is known for trying to stall and delay when you try to port out. They took about 15 min. with me on the chat before I could get them to give me the PIN to port out, but they finally did do it. If you don't want to deal with that, you could just port your number to https://www.numberbarn.com/number-parking for $3/mo. and avoid the hassle. Others have stated that you only need to port out for a day to get offered the free year again, so this is another possibility for you. That's probably what I'll do next year when my 2nd free year is up, I'm pretty sure they'll offer another free year. If not, I'm happy with two free years anyway.

I actually got a free line offered even though I already had an active line with spectrum.
My first free year ended around Nov 2025, I kept the line active under the $20 dollar plan because they had deals from time to time like the P9P and P10P, so I decided to just keep it open instead of re-opening each time. After the S26 came out, I opended 2 additional lines. For my 4th one at the store, the Rep told me I qualify for the free line, I asked "isn't that for the new customer only, they said no, as long as you open a line, you qualify as new". Confused

Could someone boot into recovery (vol up + power) and share if their device shows release-keys or test-keys? Some users with Verizon + Spectrum devices reported that they shipped some out with the debug/engineering build signed with generic test-keys, which randomly can have memory leaks that result in boot looping until app data is wiped. Lmao Samsung...

I am experiencing a similar issue. UPS delivered the phone but the spectrum trade in website still says awaiting shipment.
Chat or call IF the tracking says deliverd, the website takes time to update.

***BEWARE*** check your trade in credit once moved over to spectrum from Assurance. They magically added the phone protection to my plan and i never added that, and they could not reverse that charge so they just gave me a $10 credit... I turned in a S24, got the $843 credit and that was it, no tax credit, which should have been +$59.01. Yes i have been doing these deals at spectrum for years and always got a tax credit with the trade in return... I mean I already paid $91 in tax as they used the $1299.99 price as tax even though the phone said 899.99 on my paperwork ($400 off)...
After speaking with representative, they apparently had no idea about this... after speaking to a lead he said taxes are not refundable. Requested a supervisor and after repeating the tax refund issue 3x, they still could not understand the tax refund amount missing. So they transferred me to another supervisor... while they could not confirm why this tax refund didn't happen, she was able to credit the account the missing amount....
Maybe their process changed from previous years on getting taxes back but I was super annoyed anyway, especially since i paid taxes on 1299.99 to start with when phone was 899.99 lol...
good luck to everyone else.... i have 2 other phones pending return to see what happens with taxes too...

Is there anyway to transfer e-sim in spectrum without contacting support?
