His point is valid. Once you get i to several mounting and cabling adds up really quick and the TCO is lower and simpler with fewer, larger panels (unless you need only 1)

All depends on what you need. I'm fully off grid and my main system for years was just two 100 watt panels that are similar to this. I have 4 200 watt portable panels that I also use now though. These 100 watters are good for throwing on something like a shed or a simple van/ cargo trailer to camper build.

Sorry I'm new to this, is there a link that can explain how one can begin this journey of buying a bunch of these and using it as a back up energy source, I'm in the middle of no where Michigan and it loses power all the time and it would be great to use something like this with a battery to potentially use less energy from the grid

The key is to get a charge controller and inverter as well. They used to come I. 2 separate pieces but now they are combined into 1. Plus you'll need cabling, breakers/shutoffs, outlets/recepticles. Yellow pages -> solar installer -> "i would like to get some solar" -> "sure, how big a system do you want?" -> end journey. For home solar, you need ~400 watt panels, and between 10-40 total. Plus inverters to tie it into the grid. 100 watt panels, at this very high price, would cost you a fortune in mounting costs.

A 100w panel and a 12v 100ah battery? That'll def do the trick but it's kind of extreme overkill for a solar camera system. A single solar powered security cam is typically fine with a 10watt panel and built in 2 to 3ah 3.7v battery to be continuously powered 24/7 365 even in erratic or inclement weather patterns.. I understand it never hurts to have more than you need but dang, that's a shit ton more than necessary. There's a dude here that claims he ran his entire off grid cabin for years with just 200watts of solar. LOL

Fully off grid and your main system for years was just two 100 watt panels? I'll take "Sh!t that never happened." for 500 Alex. I have 400 watts of fixed solar panel on top of my minivan camper build along with 3 portable solar panels for 640watts on top of that and wish I had more room on top of my van for more. I hate having to set up and take down the portable panels. It's a real PITA. I even supplement all my solar with a 600watt alternator charger. 2 100watt panels is just 800 watt hours per day. It's nothing. I guess if you lived like a cave man, you could get by, but 800 watt hours aint squat. Anyone with a 1000Wh power station knows how fast 800Whs gets used up. You could run a 1500watt heater for half an hour with that. I couldn't imagine relying on a smaller than 1000Wh power station for all my power needs. I use my setup to keep a a 1.5kwh and 3kwh Pecron and a 2.2Kwh Oupes power station charged. I have less than 6 kilowatt hours of capacity and it'd take literally 8 days of perfect sunny weather to charge my 3 power stations from dead to full with 2 100watt panels.

No way. SiennaHerring788 ran a fully off grid setup for years with just 2 100 watt panels like these. Maybe he can tell you how it's done. LOL

I hear ya! I'm in the north and want a system that has 24/7 streaming via RTSP with IR emitters running. There are weeks we may go several days without direct sunlight.

Also I didn't want to deal with heated battery systems so it's a deep cycle 100ah AGM... Been going for a few years.

And even with all that storage, there has been several occasions in the winter I have had to charge via 120v.

All this necessitated the system I have.
