Damn shame that they cut corners on this tool to make it in china, I'd have bought it otherwise. The original Center Drive is awesome, built like a tank, made in the USA, and I didn't pay much more than this on release for that tool.

A lot of the assembly is done here, a fair amount of materials, parts and components are "globally sourced", especially on their lower-end tools.

I have about 30 various multitools from leatherman, gerber, sog, victorinox, and others.

The fit and finish on your average Leatherman is head and shoulders above gerber, even gerber's "premium" USA made tools. And the price, before Leatherman lost their got-damn minds and have tried to become a "lifestyle brand", was reflective of that. Now Leatherman has $300+ "limited edition" tools and a new "colorway" every week, which is becoming quite tiresome. If Gerber pays their cards right, they can slip into the niche of people who just want shit that works. Who gives a flying f*ck if it has fancy, bright colors to match your outfit?

I'd like to see gerber make a few forays into better steels. That's one of the few things Leatherman has done lately that I appreciate.

That said, this tool looks like it could be very useful, I just refuse to pay good money, unless it's dirt cheap, to support offshoring like this anymore. I'd only be willing to pay about $20 for a chineseum tool.
