i think for a couple dollars more i'd rather have it new and delivered. The time saved alone is worth the difference

edit: but by all means, if shopping like that is also activity/exercise/fun for you.. have at it.

You can find a dozen of these at any Goodwill or ValueVillage or SAVERS for $2 each any day of the week.

Recommend buying from there if possible.

Have one of these at home and it's surprisingly useful. Scramble one egg, toss it in, and it fits on an English muffin perfectly.

Fair enough, and for food related stuff, yeah having new is nice. I guess I shoulda made a different point that these are routinely donated to thrift shops, indicating that they are meh.

But like you said, if its fun for you, then yeah, $5 each, get after it lol.

Caffles! New find, The Dash Mini Waffle Diet is a thing. "Create low-carb, high-protein "chaffles" (cheese + egg) or almond flour waffles for portion-controlled, easy-to-freeze meal prep. These waffles serve as low-carb, nutrient-dense alternatives to bread, helping to manage weight while offering savory and sweet options." says RFD

If you find an older one made out of metal, even if looks bad but works, get that one.

I have three of these and one major call out. When you use them and they're on and get hot they have a weird chemical smell. It almost smells like burnt Play-Doh or something. Not sure what that is but there's always the possibility it's something harmful

Two of the negative reviews might be important for some.
One of them states the plates do not come out so it's almost impossible to clean some areas and have food buildup since youre not supposed run it under water.
The other one is that there is no on/off button, it just turns on when you plug it in and the indicator seems to be on until it heats up to temp then turns off, so you might forget to unplug it or a kid might burn themselves since it looks off. The main problem for me would be the constant plugging and unplugging is not good for you wall socket wear and tear.

I have two of these. Yes, the plates do not come off, but I wash them with soap and water anyway. Not after every use though. It usually gets clean just by wiping with a paper towel, but once in a while I'd put a small drop of soap on the plate, gently scrub with a foam sponge, then a quick rinse under running water. Just let the water hit the plate and angle it so water does not get inside.

I do not keep mine on the counter so I unplug it after using and put it away. I do have some appliances that I keep on the counter. For those. I plug them into a power strip with an on/off switch.

Just my experience.

Good deal. I have one and rarely use it just because it takes so long. If you are making more than one of something it's a bit annoying.

These suck. They are impossible to clean. The heating elements are not equally distributed causing uneven cooking. I had one for $2 and threw it away.

I have one of these and it's fine. The heating cycle is weird so it's easy to burn/undercook things. Cleaning can be tricky since you can't just throw it in the sink to soak or anything like that.

The functionality is also a bit weird. Making a large number of waffles is a pain, but also making a few waffles seems like a lot of effort (mixing batter, cleaning, etc).

You can make sour dough starter and use the discard for waffles in a waffle maker. You don't need to add yeast, eggs, mix it or anything. You just put the sourdough discard in a heated waffle maker, and it makes it a waffle.

This is by far the best tasting, cheapest, and easiest way to make waffles. You just feed the sough dough flour and water every once in awhile (you can look up instructions for making sough dough online). And you can use sough dough in a lot of recipes - like bread - and get rid of the need to buy yeast packets too.

You want to use a waffle maker that gets nice and hot before putting the discard on - like an old fashioned metal one. That's why I said look for one and get it. I haven't tried it with plastic yet - but cooking with plastic isn't appealing anyway.
