Not really 4k, though that's to be expected for the price. The sensor (looks like GC4663) records at 2560x1440, which is stretched to 4k. You'll probably get clearer video if you record at 2.5k and bypass the stretch.

About this item claims it records at 3840×2160 with the front cam and regular 1080p with the other two.. Is that not accurate? If not, that's misleading. I asked RUFUS what does it record at. this was the answer
The LINGDU V630 Dash Cam records at:
•Front camera: 4K Ultra HD (3840 × 2160)
•Interior cabin camera: 1080p Full HD (1920 × 1080)
•Rear camera: 1080p Full HD (1920 × 1080)

It technically is writing a 4k file, but it's basically applying digital zoom to get there.

This is like watching a 1080p video on a 4k TV, there's some upscaling happening in between. It's taking a 2.5k source from the image sensor and artificially stretching it into a 4k file. There are very few true 4k sensors, like the Sony Starvis 2 IMX678, and you won't find those in a budget camera. Even many of the "4k" Starvis cameras use the cheaper and lower-resolution IMX675. If you take one of its "4k" files and try to read a license plate, for example, the stretching process will distort letters that might actually be readable at the lower-but-native 2K or 2.5K resolution.

Is this all speculation or do you have proof?

You asked their AI about their own product page and basically got what they are claiming ?

Great work finding supportive evidence. Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)

This one claims 4k and uses a Sony Starvis 2 and it cost about the same as this at $71.99 https://www.amazon.com/Channel-Ca...8-7&th=1It It actually looks like a clone. Are they lying too? Prices in tech drop faster than most ppl realize. Have you considered the possibility the Starvis 2 doesn't cost nearly as much as you think it does in todays market? Upon a little research, I found out the Sony Starvis 2 sensor was released over 4 years ago. In tech years, 4 years is a very long time.

You missed where I pointed out there there's a Starvis 2 4K IMX678 and also a cheaper Starvis 2 2.5K IMX675. You linked a 675.

How can you tell which one they are using? and either way, In tech years, 4 years is ages. They are both probably way cheaper to manufacture than you realize.

Alright kids, where's the real 4K Starvis equivalent I can buy with my easy earned dollars? Had an A229 on my autobuy list but I feel like a $70 camera is going to have marginal differences with whatever is currently flagship these days.

Cameras that use a 678 will advertise it in big letters, it's a HUGE selling point. Compare the descriptions of the VIOFO A229 Plus ("Starvis 2") vs A229 Pro ("Starvis 2 IMX678") on Amazon. Keeping it quiet means it's a 675.

Starvis 2 is typically good enough, right?

For a brand name, affordable, true 4k, dash cam, one of the best bets is probably the 70mai A810/A810S.

Yes, Starvis 2 is good in either version. Most people won't really NEED the extra detail from true 4k until they absolutely need to pull a specific license plate or other detail off a recording. Even 2K is enough for most insurance claims, just to prove which driver was at fault in an accident.

Thank you! Set an autobuy for the A810S to trigger at <130, with A229 at <160 and A229 pro at <220, so whichever triggers first.
I got pulled over last week by pacing and realized not only should I have gotten a 2ch, but that my SD card had been corrupt and cheapass dashcam didn't alert me of it.

The A810s is $133 at Amazon Business if that helps. No business necessary. https://a.co/d/019tAFt3
