I'd consider these to be an essential part of chainsaw safety, along with the face shield and hearing protection. Cutting through and hitting the femoral artery is, unfortunately, extremely common, even for professionals.

And it only takes once.

Please exercise extreme caution with chainsaws. That's an ugly, ugly injury.

Please heed his advice. Many years ago I avoided this exact injury - hitting a femoral artery - thanks to wearing a pair of Stihl chaps. I was out in the middle of nowhere too. Total life saver.

A few years ago I had 16 trees that I needed to cut to allow the Dishy to get a clear view of the Northern sky. My Husqvarna was doing a good job, but a buddy of mine (with a chainsaw problem) said I should finish the job with one of his monstrous Stihls. I brought it home, fired it up and began using it, but it was idling a little high so that even at idle, the chain never stopped spinning. I should have stopped right there and fixed it, but I needed to bring down one last poplar that evening. I notched it and was holding the fast idling saw carelessly by my side in my left hand, when i turned to the left and bumped my leg into the spinning chain. I'm still amazed at just how much meat an idling saw was able to remove in a fraction of a second. A pair of these chaps would've saved me a pile of pain that evening, but from a slick-deal perspective my copay for the stitches was still cheaper than the chaps.

Thank goodness it wasn't worse. Old logger friend always told me, both hands on a chain saw with a moving chain at all times. Wasn't there a golfer who made that mistake some years ago?

Have these. Heavy duty, protective, but do make you hotter sweat more - price paid for protection.

In case you are already a Lowe's member, I found a $10 off $75+ coupon in my account that applied to this item without issue. At least 10% off face value gift cards to Lowe's are also frequently available, so all combined, this may work out to be a better deal from Lowe's depending on your situation. Thank you for posting this deal!
