Meta Quest headsets stand out for VR gaming, movie watching, and mixed reality content, with Quest 3 especially praised for its pancake lenses, sharp streaming from a PC, and strong experiences like 3D movies and virtual pinball. The current pricing is drawing attention because the lower holiday and clearance deals are gone, and restocks are already pushing prices up at many retailers. The main drawbacks are comfort and value, since the headset can feel heavy, the Quest 3S lenses are seen as a step down, and the new prices make upgrades harder to justify. A solid option if the features matter more than chasing the old sale price.

Common Questions (5)

  • Not necessarily. Some retailers may sell through existing stock first and raise prices only when they restock, so the increase can lag behind Meta's own pricing. A few stores were still showing the old price while others had already moved up.

  • A cashback extension or email offer can add substantial savings, and a Capital One browser extension was used to trigger a $150 credit offer after browsing Meta's site. A separate referral link was also mentioned for a $30 game/app credit if used before headset activation.

  • For many shoppers, the 3S price was not compelling enough to justify an upgrade from a Quest 2, and the fresnel lenses were described as a worse experience than the Quest 3's pancake lenses. The Quest 3 was still favored for better optics and overall value.

  • It works well for watching 3D movies, AI-upscaled movie conversions, and streaming high-resolution video from a PC over Wi‑Fi. Virtual pinball is another strong use case, with native Pinball FX and free VPX offering many tables.

  • Yes. Newegg, Amazon, Target, Adorama, ABT, Brandsmart, QVC, and HSN were still mentioned as holding lower pricing at the time, while other retailers had already increased. Stock can change quickly, so the old price may disappear fast.

My only question is if there is a trade in path for someone with the 2.
It really just isn't worth much anymore given the 3S. I gave mine away to a cousin after I got my Quest 3.

this still causes nausea and dizziness if used for more than 1 hour?
That's my main problem with this, it's too heavy and squeezes your head which could also be contributing. Really it should be just some lightweight goggles with a cord that connects to the compute unit which is maybe strapped to your waist or back.

Mine was, and yeah it was brand new from Aliexpress, shipped from Hillsboro Oregon. Edit: I might have the true seller name wrong.

It's a bummer that years-old tech is now going up in price instead of going down...

Caution, the latest update was anti-ownership. My updates were turned off in settings but the device still updated. Now my side loaded app is only available when connected to wifi in the new interface. Also After the update, I launch a game I don't want to play as it is booting I hit the meta button and open the game I actually want to play. If I opened the 2nd game 1st it won't get past the loading screen. If it had this behavior within the return window I would have returned it, but making it crappy after the return window seems accepted now. Also if they don't honor the update off button what else are they doing with the device I told them not to?

I got the 3s for like $175 after a black Friday deal in 24. Even that was pushing it on being worth it. Those fresnal lenses are just a poor experience compared to the pancake lenses of the 3.

In no world would I pay $350 for a 3s. It's like Meta is trying to completely tank the quest brand with these prices.

Watching 3D movies and playing virtual pinball on the Quest 3 is amazing.

This is weird. I was lucky enough to get the 512Gb version for $307 (after $100 Amazon credit) in early December. That was probably a blip, but the general price during the holiday period was a temporary cut of $100 off MSRP. I was chatting to a friend in the UK who had picked one up recently - Meta were selling off new headsets as refurbished when he bought his. I get that storage and memory have both gone up in cost during and since that time but how do you go from clearing out inventory to increasing prices by 20%?

I just had a 39% rewards back email from a certain cashback app last week. Getting those emails usually requires browsing first with the extension enabled in your browser, and the promo email comes a day later. Would be a good deal combined with the current lower price.
I saw that promo too. I've been hesitant to use offers like that given the cb balance in my account there is $0, despite me having used their links on a couple of sites. They have wording on those offers about users only being eligible for one email offer ("Limit one Home Page Activation Bonus offer per user") - would that mean you can only use that particular offer (in this case Meta) once, or that once you've used one of these big %age offers you are ineligible for any others (LG frequently shows up with very generous percentages for example).
