the 288v also has a 100% srgb 400 nit screen.
Acer certified refurb laptops marketed as "pristine, like-new condition" are practically new, based on my past experience.
They usually use a different language like "very good" or "slight wear and tear" for laptops that are in worse refurb condition. Example: https://www.ebay.com/itm/277798090257
Community Reviews
This Acer Aspire 14 AI certified refurb stands out as a lightweight 14 inch laptop with a 1TB SSD, 16GB of RAM, and a fast Ultra 5 chip that feels basically new in use. The certified refurb grading is repeatedly described as pristine or like new, with battery health showing 100 percent in multiple reports. The screen is the main tradeoff, with the Ultra 5 panel described as around 65 percent sRGB and 300 nits, while the 2 year warranty helps offset concerns about display issues. Heavy preinstalled software is another annoyance, and a dented arrival shows condition can still vary.
Common Questions (5)
The certified refurb units are repeatedly described as pristine and like-new, with some arriving essentially brand new and showing 100% battery health or battery cycles. That makes this refurb grade much closer to new than typical "very good" or "slight wear" refurb listings.
The Ultra 5 model's screen is the main compromise: it is reported around 65% sRGB and 300 nits, while the Ultra 9 version is 100% sRGB and 400 nits. The display is still usable and some units are reported as smooth at 60Hz, but buyers sensitive to color and brightness may prefer the higher-tier model.
Battery health has been reported as good to 100% on certified refurb units, and one buyer said Acer confirmed the battery was fine before purchase. A practical check is to run Windows `powercfg /batteryreport` after receiving it.
Yes. The Ultra 5 is reported as more than sufficient for business email, local accounting software, and college use, with good speed and low noise; it is not aimed at gaming-heavy workloads.
Yes, several units arrive with heavy Acer, Microsoft, and McAfee preloads. Owners recommend removing them with tools like O&O AppBuster and O&O ShutUp to clean up the install.

Downloaded O&O shutoff to improve privacy, and O&O AppBuster to remove all pre-installed apps. Just got select all, remove. I can always install then later if I find the need.
Battery health shows 100%, so pretty much new.
The bazel around the screen is a bit thicker than what I prefer, but can't complain at this price point.
I got a big dent at the bottom.
