Isn't that 2013 models and down. I'm not saying they never will eol this one, but it shouldn't be soon.

If you were to mod this the second you got it, is it safe from being bricked, or could they somehow bypass it and brick it even after uploading the new Bezos-free software?

Yeah, buy a USED kindle thats only a few years away from being purposefully BRICKED by the manufacturer. Takes "planned obsolescence" to a whole new level. I will never buy another Amazon digital product again.

I have a Kindle 2018 that is not bricked, and works just fine. I paid $40 or so for that one a few years ago. Based on that, this one will has many years left. Good enough for this price.

Edit: Also, the 2024 (latest) and 2022 are pretty much the same (11th gen.) so don't worry too much about getting bricked in the coming year or so..

It's amazing that people are flipping out about support being discontinued for 14-year-old devices and then going all "chicken little" about modem devices.
