It auto detects thicker and non thick areas based on resistance and will turn up the rpm or turn down the rpm automatically. It's to save battery life and works great imo.

I had the 40v version and it was... Tempermental... Sometimes it didn't have an issue, sometime a stubborn stalk would cause it to stall out, but overall I'm happy with Greenworks products and I'll gladly add this.

I've been using the 40v for probably a decade now. It's very good, but for really thick grass having a bit more power is always helpful. I am definitely considering this (vs. the 80v)

I bought the same one in 2023 ..but it came with 2 batteries at 4.0 amps --- I LOVE the Greenworks mower, it never let me down, easily cuts a 1/4 acre on 1 battery , even w/o self propelled it's light enough to push ....I highly recommend it

For those that have smaller lawns or with well placed outlets, the corded versions are significantly cheaper and will never require a battery replacement:

https://www.walmart.com/ip/Greenw...wer-25012/ as an example, though do note the 18" cutting width. It makes it easier to move around objects but requires more laps. The one I've been using since march 2014 is a 20" (apparently they've discontinued that size) that I bought for $160 on a slickdeal and I've only run over the 100' power cord once (twice with the snow thrower, flipping snow hiding things.) I bought a replacement in 2018 for the same price on a slickdeal because I thought for sure it would die soon.... (It's still in a box) I have however replaced the cutting blade a handful of times. Note that until ~2022 I had most of a 1/4 acre of grass mowed like a gen-x midwesterner , since then it's more like an 1/8th mowed MAYBE twice a week at the absolute peak. Flipping workhorse, if you're good with the batteries requiring replacement (and changing) this is a good option that insures adhesion to proper hydration and cooling breaks for those with large lawns or who need a self propelled version.

I've had both. My greenworks had some battery problems with the regulating electronics, so I ditched them for ego. Ego customer service has gotten sporadic, even with online influencers. Ego does make better mowers, but does have a model comparable to the greenworks. So it's kind of a coin toss. You are probably good either way these days as both companies are making better gear. Get what's on sale, and has the features you need of course.

I recently bought the greenworks 60V with the 22" steel deck, dual blade (might be discontinued?)...but was cross-shopping pretty much everything...i went with the greenworks because it felt sturdy enough and 2) its weight felt much more balanced than the Egos (Egos felt back-heavy, like they easily tipped towards me, and that could make for an inconsistent cut)
good performance from the greenworks so far--the self propulsion is so quick, i use it pretty much only at low speed. 8Ah battery holds a nice long charge.
Only potential issue is battery longevity, but that is with any rechargeable. to avoid temp swings and short life, I make sure to keep the batteries inside the house when not using.

Same, the 40V works fine for my small car but it can definitely struggle a bit with some thick grass. Also doesn't help that it's only 16" so it takes so many passes. Looking to upgrade this year or next to a higher voltage and wider platform.

This looks like the one I bought last year. It works well, better than the Hart I've been using before the Greenworks. It especially does a great job with the bagging of the clippings and never getting clogged no matter how long or moist the clippings are. However, I purchased a edger with an extra 4Ah battery because the 8Ah battery is sometimes not enough for my 1/3 acre yard (depends on how tall the grass is) and this is without using the auto-propel.
