I dont get why they dont make the base a charging base so you could just leave it plugged in all the time

Have these

I don't use one for salt. I kept one and gave the second one away. We both love using them for pepper.
So nice to be able to use with one hand.

Buying another set to give away.

Would probably overcharge and cook the battery life too soon.

They do have a model with a charging base. It's on the same page.

I bought two sets of these rechargeable grinders, one set for me and one set to give away. I think they are great! They work exceptionally well. Their capacity is perfect for my needs. They are deft to handle and smooth to operate. They are very quiet. Battery life is unknown ... been using them for a month, straight out of the box, and haven't had to charge them yet.

A few details that could be improved:
  • There is no difference between the salt shaker and the pepper shaker. In fact, they are identical. The only way that you know which is which is by identifying the contents through the clear plastic windows. I wish each shaker were more prominently labeled with "Salt" and "Pepper" (or "S" and "P").
  • The dial for fine-coarse is very subtle and difficult to distinguish. I wish the dials were labeled more prominently so that they are easier to read. After all, I bought these electric-powered grinders for convenience and not for aesthetics.
  • The clear plastic stand is too wide. I covet the shelf space in my pantry, every inch needs to be fought for in blood. The holes are spaced about 1-1/2" apart. The spacing could easily be narrowed to less than 1/2" apart without affecting functionality.

That, and they hold a charge a surprisingly long time.

I'll provide you the only non-snark answer so far.
No.
SPs should be roasted, sifted and cooled just before grinding.
