Yes, you can use it without a subscription with the Ring app only and very important. Only live events there'll be no saved snapshots or saved videos. So basically you have to catch somebody either in movement of motion or somebody ringing the doorbell.

Get this instead, come with sync modules XR that you can store locally.https://a.co/d/03B2VQE0If you don't want the camera, you can return that and just keep the doorbell with XR for around $45.

I'm grandfathered into cloud and still moving away from blink. Go eufy.

In particular the old doorbell would disconnect from my echos (used for the indoor chime) once a month. You have to remove it and readd the doorbell to blink to get it back. Otherwise I've got 4 other cameras around in all types of conditions and they all work perfect. Been using 1.5v lithium rechargeables too
