Can you elaborate why someone would be wasting their money on this vs the pro which is 3x the cost?

The Pro supports far more total devices. But that's not going to be an issue for most people. My home is small. Even if I replaced every single light with Hue I would be nowhere near the limit on these.

B$. I'm an IoT guy and I have several dozen Hue lights across 4000sq ft. I have this "cheap" hue bridge and it's been flawless and responsive.

Phillips just trying to milk more money with the new bridge. The average household OR power user will never, ever, need the Pro.

I had ~30 something lights and 10 switches. Was under the max amount of devices that the Hue hub 2 supports. I'd had infrequent periods of non-responsiveness randomly throughout a day. Push the on button on the Hue wireless switch and it'll flash red for a bit and do nothing. Hit it a few more times and it'll eventually work. A few hours (or rarely a few days) of being fine, a burst of 5ish minutes of it not doing anything and it'll be fine again. Always at odd inopportune time too like coming home or in the restroom. This happened in my old home and new. Also happened with my old router (Asus) and new one (Unifi). Migrated to the Pro hub since December and it has been rock solid.

The better deal may be to wait for an A19 bulb and this hub kit to go on sale together. Think it goes for around the same price as this hub alone.

The Pro seems to be way more responsive when I use the light switch. Lights basically turn off instantly with the Pro instead of small delay I had with the Gen 2. Worth the price for my wife to no longer complain Smilie

There are some new Hue features that are only being added to the new Pro bridge, that are not being added to the old v2 Bridge. The new Pro bridge has a faster processor for faster response times, supports 150+ lights and 50+ accessories, and can do motion sensing in rooms with 3 Hue bulbs. I just hit 52 lights and 10 accessories in my setup, so I am now over the limit of what this old v2 Bridge supports.

Not everyone needs the newer Bridge Pro, but it is the better, faster bridge where all new Hue features will be added.

Agree with the first part of your statement - don't spend money just to turn on your lights. Get a Matter controller and buy devices that support Matter.

I too have noticed significantly improved response times since changing to the Pro. In terms of the small lag from buttons press to response, it's not a big deal. OTOH, when changing scenes or using animations, it's a big difference with the Pro. The old ones are not worth it unless nearly free IMO. Plus if you're interested in the room occupancy/motion sensor features using existing lights, those are only available with the Pro.

The new Hue Bridge Pro is definitely worth it imo, but only because I used a Bridge 2 for years and understand its limitations. Once you start building more complicated scenes (where one switch is controlling multiple lights) I found frequent occasions where system latency on Bridge 2 would fire those lights at slightly different times and fast actions (on then immediately off) would leave some lights on and other off (or worse, where some lights were stuck on, but flashing). For me, Hue Bridge Pro fixed these edge case issues.

Not everyone is going to run into those issues and if you're just getting started with the Hue ecosystem, Bridge 2 is fine. But you'll probably get one in a bundle buying the lights you want, not stand alone like this.
