Frequently returned due to small size, which sounds right if an 8 year old is using it for school.

We used it to travel to Europe, Africa and South America multiple times, really depends on what size you're looking for, but for international travel it has been great. I learned a long time ago not to trust amazon reviews but I understand not everyone thinks the same way
