I have the Gen 3 Sub and can't recommend it enough. Get the 3 sub over the mini for sure. It's the same price right now. I have it paired with the Arc Ultra and the Era 100s as surrounds.
The Arc Ultra is better overall vs the Arc especially with dialogue but IMO, it's not worth the $400+ premium over the Arc soundbar at just $399
Sonos refurb deals here center on building a compact home theater with the Arc, Sub Gen 3, and Era 100s, with the strongest praise going to the soundstage, bass, and surround effect. The Arc and Sub combo is described as a big upgrade for living rooms and small rooms alike, and the Era 100s work well as surrounds or as a stereo pair. Refurb units repeatedly arrive looking new, often in sealed packaging, and carry the same one year warranty as new products. The main caution is that room size and acoustics matter, and the Sub Mini or Beam 2 can make more sense in smaller spaces.
Home theater buyers building a compact surround setup, because Arc, Sub 3, and Era 100s deliver convincing surround sound in smaller rooms.
Bedroom or small-room listeners who want a soundbar that stays balanced at close range, because Beam 2 sounds clearer than Beam 1 and works well in tiny spaces.
They often arrive looking brand new, sometimes even in sealed retail packaging with no visible wear. Several buyers reported refurbished Arc, Sub, and Era 100 units arriving packaged like new, with only minor signs of prior return use in rare cases.
Yes for most rooms: the Sub Gen 3 is only $10 more at $409 versus the refurb Sub Mini at $399, and it delivers noticeably more bass headroom. The Mini is still a good fit for smaller or medium rooms, but the Gen 3 is the better pick for living rooms and home theater.
Yes. The Arc plus Sub Gen 3 works with two Era 100s as rear surrounds, and that setup is described as sounding fully surround and very strong for music and movies. Officially Sonos supports two speakers, and Sonosequencer can extend the setup further if needed.
The regular Arc at $399 is widely treated as the better value, especially in non-huge rooms, because the Arc Ultra's dialogue and overall performance gains are not seen as worth the roughly $400+ premium. The Arc Ultra is better overall, but the price jump is hard to justify for many buyers.
My entire Sonos footprint is a Beam gen 1 from a previous refurb sale. I want to add a turntable to my Sonos system (or a new one if I need to upgrade the Beam.) Do any Sonos gurus have suggested designs using parts from this sale?
$1162 for an Arc, Sub 3, and 100's is an insane deal as far as Sonos products go. Is the Ultra and Sub 4 an upgrade? Yes… is the "upgrade" in sound worth the $500 premium? That's up to your ears. I personally don't think so. It's such a minuscule difference and not worth the $$ premium.
Depending on size of your room and where your TV is located, getting the Ultra, Sub 3, 2-100's and and an extra Sub 3 would be a better deal. 2 subs are definitely better than 1… that's a fact.
Or
You can also get an extra pair of 100's for a stereo pair in another room… or use that same 100's with the Arc and use Sonosequencer to extend you L and R channels.
Or get both…
Thanks for the input. Ended up getting the refurb Arc, 2 of the Era 100s, and the Sub 3. It was literally half the price of the new setup and my living room is only like 12x14 or so.
Thoughts on getting sub 3, 2x 100s, and the Arc for $1162 on this deal: OR wait til the Adorama deal comes back that is the Arc Ultra, 2x 100s, and the Sub 4 for $1650ish or so.
Right now have a pretty entry level samsung soundbar with 2 very poor/weak surround speakers
Does anyone use the Era 100's as rear speakers to an Arc and sub?
Yes, I use the Era 100s for the rear, Arc Ultra, and Sub (Gen 1). I've been debating to upgrade to a Sub 3 or Sub 4, but I've read that the sound difference is minimal. I love the setup and highly recommend it if you don't have a huge room
Lol well ended up getting the OG Arc refurbed. That being said room isn't huge so the original Arc should be sufficient. I imagine anything will be better than my current setup. Only deal on a Arc Ultra was the Adorama deal with Era 300s for $2000 so that's literally 2x the price
I currently have a Beam 1, sub mini and 2 one SLs. I really want to get the Arc but I hear that dialogue is not very clear on it compared to the Arc Ultra or Beam 2. I don't want to pay for the Ultra so I am leaning toward the refurbished Beam 2. My family room where this is going to is not very big. Thoughts? Beam 2 or Arc? Or is Beam 2 even a worthy upgrade to the Beam 1?
I've got the Beam 1 and Beam 2 and bought an Arc but returned it because I felt the Beam 2 sounded great and was better value. The Arc was 2x the cost at the time so that was a factor. The Beam 2 sound stage is a little bit more narrow than Arc but dialog is much better and thus the Beam 2 is overall better imho. Compared to the Beam 1 the Beam 2 is noticeably better, with more audio channel separation and cleaner details, but it's not a big difference.

They haven't had the sub mini in the refurb store as far as I'm aware, I ended up buying open box from Best Buy during one of the sales for $300. Works perfect for my medium sized living room.

How good Beam 2 is depends on the room. I have one in bedroom and it's amazing little soundbar. But my room is tiny. I wouldn't put it in a living room, it's not going to sound good and be way underpowered.
