Early battery degradation was the 14 pro. The 15 pro's battery is solid. I'm sitting on 88% with 955 cycles to give you an idea. While some minor overheating was present in some badly optimized iOS versions, the latest 26.4 and beyond has been great. No overheating even while pushing it. Most of the heat is simply due to the use of titanium. It doesn't adversely affect it too much. Use wired charging. Comparatively wireless charging will always produce more heat. A wireless charger with an active cooling fan helps with that.

Refurb seems to mean inspected for full functionality and at least 80% battery. Not really my definition of refurbished

Opposite with me. 15 Pro Max was garbage, over heating and major slow down. My daughter still has my 14 Pro Max and battery life at 87% bought at launch. 15 Pro Max i got rid of. My sister and coworker both still have one and both have issues with the latest ios version with both having battery phantom drain and major slowdown. 3 15 Pro Max phones all having similar issues to me isn't coincidence. YMMV of course. 14 Pro Max has been flawless when I used it and my daughter who still lives me same scenario.

Is the 15 series considered good? I've read a lot of complaints about overheating and early battery degredation.
My launch day 15 Pro Max's battery health is 94% after 503 cycles

My wife and I used the 15 Pro Max since launch, and it was honestly a very disappointing experience. Both of our phones would get warm for no clear reason, and the battery health dropped way faster than we expected. We're just light users—no jailbreak or anything unusual—but they still overheated even after multiple updates. It got to the point where we sometimes had to turn the phones off just to cool them down.

After about a year, the battery health was already down to 88% and 90%. We ended up selling them when the 16 Pro Max came out, and so far, the new ones have been much better. We haven't had any random overheating at all, and the battery health is still holding strong at 97% and 98%.

That's pretty high for 955 cycles, but my experience was different. My wife and I are light users and still had to turn the phones off just to cool them down—even after all the updates.Battery dropping to around 88–90% in just a year was disappointing.

For comparison, I gave my launch-day 14 Pro Max to my mom and it's still at 81% after much longer use. Ended up selling the 15 Pro Max when the 16 pro max came out—night and day difference so far. No overheating, and battery health is sitting at 97% and 98%.

I'm in the same boat. My wife and I had a disappointing run with the 15 Pro Max—both units would get hot for no reason even with light use. The battery was a letdown, dropping to 90-88% in just a year. For perspective, the 14 Pro Max I gave my mom at launch is still at 81%. We switched to the 16 Pro Max and it's been night and day; no overheating and health is still at 97% and 98%. Definitely wasn't a coincidence.

Has anyone had issues with returns on these if they aren't satisfied with the phone they get? I've never bought a refurbed phone.

Returns are very straightforward with certified eBay refurbished phones in my experience. I think I bought an "excellent" listing from another seller and the condition was a bit worse than expected but not terrible. The frame had some light dings and the battery was a < 90%. The phone was in pretty good shape, but it wasn't "excellent" imo. I took a few detailed photos of the areas I had concerns with and mentioned the battery and the refund was very prompt.

As an aside, these listings have shot up by about 15-20% across the board since February. You could find the 15 pros for anywhere from $390-$430 back then. Now they're consistently closer to the $500 range. The iPhone resale market is crazy right now imo. Best Buy is trying to sell refurb 13 pro's for anywhere from $450-$500.

Everyone has differing views. My pro 15 max has been an amazing workhorse. I've had it for 2.5 years since launch and it's been a very dependable phone. Works great when I need it.

Ah it's only for the dark blue one (generally the least liked of the three colors due to how scratch-prone it is), and showing up as a higher $935 now with its coupon.

My experience with 15 Pro Max (can't speak for the regular Pro; this is about the Pro Max): I got the 512GB variant in mid-October 2023, just a few weeks after it got released. 2.5 years later, currently at 87% battery capacity after just 326 cycles. After the 1 year mark it was down to 93%. Light to moderate use, not a heavy user at all, only take a few pictures and videos and surf the Safari browser / check emails. The battery degradation IS noticeably poor compared to other iPhones I had used before, and compared to the other iPhones my family members have and have had (14 Plus, 16 Plus, and even 8 Plus).

Overheating isn't too much of an issue for me as it was when it was first released; seems like the software updates since then have improved it somewhat, but titanium is still titanium and does not remove heat very well. It has never even once been charged with a wireless or MagSafe charger. ALWAYS Wired, and never fast-charging either. Always with just a 12W, USB-A to C charger. So that rules out charging-related / heat issues as a source of battery degradation. It has always been kept at a battery charge range between 35 to 90%. It's now on iOS 18.7.7 (the final version of iOS 18), so it still runs very smooth and consistently on it and is stable. Prior to that, it was on 18.7.3 since December 2025, and before that, on its final version of iOS 17 for over a year (17.7.2). Glad I did not "upgrade" to 26, as I've read nightmare scenarios of that OS on older phones, even on the recent 16 and 15 series.

Overall, my 15 Pro Max still functions very well at least on 18.7.7, but the battery degradation (in terms of how much % capacity has decreased per battery cycle) IS definitely the worst I've seen out of any iPhone so far.
