This would be a good "backup" server, but it's not on the Omicron backbone, so I wouldn't use it as a primary

Works fine for me as my priority 0. I was on Eweka before but they raised my rates without asking me if that was cool, so I ditched them and went with Newsdemon. They aren't raising rates on people. Saved myself a ton of money and the service is the same.

Newdemon service is good, but the backbone is not good, lots of failure, can only be backup.

I think its a mistake to make such broad general statements, like they are a fact for everyone. I am using Newsdemon and its showing 98% completion in the last six months, the same as Eweka did for me. Neither of our experiences will be the same for everyone though. People should just try things for themselves.

Only provider I'll never go back to. Their 'monthly' fee turns out to be billed every 29 days, which gives them 13 payments a year.

I'm not the only one, from reddit

Unfortunately, the main thread about NewsDemon most people would point to and cite was deleted awhile back and no longer returns in search results.

Good summation by mod u/stuff

So for anyone who is keeping score:

Newsdemon has a billing software "bug" that bills monthly users every 29 days instead of monthly

Their "non-expiring" block account expires after 1 year

Newsdemon users report that discounted "unlimited" accounts are speed capped

Newsdemon closes "unlimited" accounts when they use too much

and

suggest that heavy use of an unlimited account is a ToS violation

Newsdemon cancels user account for "unknown abuse" and refuses to explain why

And now this, they just happened to have all of their heavily discounted account information on the same billing system disk, that disk just happened to fail, they don't have a back up (of their farking billing system!) so previously discounted users must sign up for a new plan.

I didnt know newsgroups was still a thing. I used usenet like 35 years ago. I remember signing up for NewsDemon around 23 years ago iirc.

I used to use newsdemon several years ago. It was relatively complicated to get into and finding newsgroups seemed difficult back then, but using some 3rd party extensions made it slightly easier, but definitely something I'd still have to research to get back into using it.
Now a days I use real debrid, and find that it's much easier to use and finding things is much more user friendly.
For those that use this, is there a particular reason over other options available?

Almost worth trying. Haven't used Usenet since Google bought and killed DejaNews.

Honestly, this should be ignored. I've been using NewsDemon for probably 7 years and my completion rate is like 98%+. It depends on what you're using it for, but I don't have any kind of major issues with it.

They do bill every 29 days, so that's 12.5 billings a year. Not accurate to say "monthly", you're right, but usually not a big deal if the price isn't bad.
I've been a member since December of 2018 (just looked) and I've never had them throttle me or complain about my use...and there have been months I used like 5TB+.

That said, I don't see any way to use this deal for existing accounts. I'm paying $12/month and would love to drop down to $2/month...but I don't know of a way to do it.

I took your advice and paid for Real-Debrid but can't for the life of me figure out how to use it.

I've been using these guys for nearly a decade now as my primary. It's a stellar service. Highly recommend it. Get a basic Indexer, install Sonarr, and buy NewsDemon and you've got an ideal stack for like $34 a year.
Given where hard drive prices are going, it might be a good idea to lock in a price like this now.

Very Novice question but is this for placing content in the cloud or hosting streaming?
