Get one On Us with any trade on any rate plan. Among all the recent gen boring iPhone Samsung and Pixel phones with no unique design or features, this one seem like an interesting backup phone with its attempt of a unique fake E-Ink screen (LCD) with optimized matte screen surface and polarization for eye comfort.

This won't be for everyone but is an interesting device if you have lines that doesn't have EIP plans considering the promo allows you to trade in broken devices.
Same IP68 water resistance as flagships, the MediaTek 7300 is old but hard to complain at this MSRP for a carrier custom device. At 4xA78 + 4xA55 on TSMC N4, this is still a decently efficient chip for regular use, same CPU design as MediaTek 8200, 8100 just different clock speeds, CPU performance between Tensor G3 and G2 but more efficient thanks to TSMC N4. Oh and it has fingerprint sensor in power button.
Got this on T-Mobile One plan, traded in a cracked broken iPhone 4S. Do it at Sam's Club or Costco to get the extra $75 gift card and waived $35 fee.
* Also forgot to mention another good feature is this thing supports Dual Physical SIM or MicroSD expansion too. Second SIM slot is either SIM2 or MicroSD card. And the phone still supports eSIM as well, but you are limited to two Active SIM simultaneously so either 2 Physical SIM or 1 Physical 1 eSIM.
Someone also brought up T-Mobile satellite, I haven't tried this but T-Mobile website lists it as compatible with satellite messaging? YMMV
Community Reviews
The TCL NXTPAPER 70 Pro stands out as a budget phone built for reading, with a 6.9 inch 120Hz matte LCD that cuts glare and feels closer to e paper than a glossy screen. The etched glass finish gets praise for manga and e reader use, and the phone also brings IP68 water resistance, dual physical SIM support, eSIM, and microSD expansion. The main caveats are that it is not a flagship replacement, T Mobile satellite messaging appears limited to messaging only, and the 40 day carrier lock can delay adding a second non T Mobile SIM. Support through March 2028 also feels short for the price.
Common Questions (5)
The phone is tied to T-Mobile offer ID R510 Smartphone Promo with Trade (ID260086), with 24 monthly bill credits after trading in an eligible device in any condition. The promo appears to allow multiple upgrades, but there may be line/account limits and free-line restrictions depending on your account.
Yes. The matte NXTPAPER display is well suited for reading, and it has been used successfully for manga and as an e-reader instead of a Kindle. It is especially appealing if you want a low-glare screen for long reading sessions.
Yes. It has one tray that takes either 2 physical SIMs or 1 SIM plus a microSD card, and it also supports eSIM. Only two active SIMs can be used at once, and the phone is locked for at least 40 days before adding a second non-T-Mobile carrier SIM.
T-Mobile lists it as T-Satellite compatible for messaging, but the feature may be messaging-only rather than full app data. That means texts can work over satellite, while apps like WhatsApp may not.
NXTPAPER is an LCD with a matte, etched-glass finish, not true e-paper. It reduces glare versus glossy screens, looks better than a basic matte protector, and runs at 120Hz.

that NXTPAPER technology is awesome!!
So definitely less glare than a glossy finish, but just to set expectations (in case anyone else heard that, as well)...
Good luck!

there was a new rule that supposedly free lines did not qualify
I'll call Costco tomorrow to avoid activation fees and get the cash card

I called up with an old blackberry and she could also not find the imei in her system.
I called the Costco Tmobile line. Nearby Costco by me does not sell Tmobile service
she did a mock order and said the 2 free lines would qualify
also, she said there is a limit of 4

it is still very much alive for all rate plan as far as i know. which is rare because if you running one of the legacy plans, you would normally not be able to get any new phone promotions for the last many year.
