You better pretty much already have a decent set of abs if you're giving to use something like this. I bought one years ago, and practically broke my back trying to get mildly buff

If you regularly resistance train with good form and core bracing, you will have strong abs. The saying goes, abs are made in the kitchen, not the gym. That being said, if you are looking for defined, separated abs, this is a good tool paired a calorie deficit. I have never focused specifically on abs, but they do pop at a low bf % (I got down to about 6% last year for a competition... this is not enjoyable... looks cool, not fun). But, we just booked our Mexico trip for the fall, and this time my abs are going to pop. Yes, this is vanity... there's something to be said for a jacked 50yo. But, it's important to have a strong core (and body) as you age. Wanna keep up with eventual grandkids, be active, carry groceries, get off the toilet, etc.
The bigger wheeled ones work harder imo, but these are almost unmatched for core training, Very hard on your muscles, Start out with 5 reps. Wait three days to recover, then try 5 daily, and gradually increase, and get fancier by hooking left and then right when you roll out to isolate your side obliques.
Do it with a weighted vest once you look like Brock Lesnar.
Seriously i've done 30+ reps on an incline crunch machine clutching a 30lb weight and that hurt less than the ab roller. Simple, cheap, effective.
