This is pre-emergent, which means if you missed the window to apply this, then it won't do anything besides feed the weeds

For the most part your correct, I applied it a week ago.
Last summer I applied it to a small area on the side of my house I ignored in the spring and it helped with the crabgrass killing most of it. I misted the grass forst

Thanks I ordered this. I read that this is good to put down first and then follow up with Scott's Weed and Feed afterwards

Not really, it only works if the soil temps are transitioning between 60-70 degrees in either direction—from colder to warmer in spring (depending on your location) then again in the fall for winter weeds from hotter to colder. If you're past that it won't do anything since the weed seeds have already germinated

Yeah I'm still a beginner in lawn care, but I'm pretty sure it's late for preemergent in most places now. I applied it 2 weeks ago in Wisconsin and was worried if i was late then too.
