I have a Mac mini and bought a 4k 27" monitor. However, using 4k resolution made everything too small for me. Using the even scaling to 1080p kept things sharp but cost me screen real estate and I didn't like it. Now I run it scaled to 2560x1440. Even though it's a touch soft on the focus, I still prefer it to 4k or 1089p.
At 27", this monitor is the right resolution.

Agree, 1440p is the right resolution for MacOS, until you get up to 5K monitors. Scaling issues are real with MacOS
