Zero is much better imo but I don't think you are giving it a fair shot if you are getting it from amazon. Better to buy it at a local store. Any batch can have can have degradation of taste due to breakdown of sweeteners from heat exposure, but I find local grocery stores to be better on average than amazon and even warehouse clubs.
If you have Kroger near you, try Dr. K Zero. I'm generally not a fan of store-brand sodas, but this one is excellent. Cheaper and I prefer it to DrP zero but we don't have Krogers near us.
We did a "blind" taste test with several adults this past weekend actually. 100%, including the hardcore Diet Dr. Pepper drinkers, preferred both the K and the Zero over the Diet.
I keep ordering these and every time it looks like they've been tossed around the warehouse. Dented cans, ripped packaging, etc. Still tastes like Dr Pepper, just be prepared for some bumps and bruises on that aluminum.

Good deal. Thank you. I've been wondering how Zero compares to Diet.

That's been my experience as well. Just with the Dr. Pepper varieties in my experience. Like someone played hackey sack with random cans or took a weed whacker to the box.

Yeah these will arrive looking like Ace Ventura drop kicked them down the street.

Last two times they had this deal I ordered it and was expired. They refunded me but I had to deal with trashing them all. I think where you live matters as well. I sent a couple to my daughter's ahead of a visit and it had good dates. She lives near a major city. I live rural.
Random experience here, but I've had good luck with Dr. Pepper Zero from Amazon. Hasn't been expired and the cans haven't been that trashed. Coke Zero, on the other hand, usually shows up tasting like it has been in a hot warehouse for months.
