Dewalt has several versions of this available in Home Depot for under $12. Can't say whether this brand is better than Dewalt though.

This acts as an extension for 1/4" hex bits in an impact driver or allows the ability to use 1/4" hex bits in a normal drill.

This is true, but what far more people use them for is quick release bit changes. Rather than holding the chuck with one hand and positioning the bit with the other, you just pull down the shank and insert. This allows it to be done in about half the time and with only one hand.

Got a Wera screwdriver that accepts bits from a friend a long time ago and they are awesome. Is recommend the screwdriver over this but their quick release system works great. Don't have to hold it back while removing/inserting bits.

Pretty much every tool brand has some type of 1/4" bit holder. I think my all time favorite is the Wiha SlimFix.
