isthereanydeal.com is the best for tracking PC prices, I always sort by historical low and check every few days. You can set alerts on specific games too. Pay attention to platforms. For instance I prefer to have a ll my games on steam.

May help some though I'm not going down the road of 'renting' or paying subscriptions to play my games.

It's very helpful to use game price/history sites to sort the deals during sales. I like to sort games $5 and under as well as setting a high percentage off. I also like to look through the games that are historical lows.

SteamDB, most of the prices are exactly the same as the other dozen sales they do a year.

In addition to the other two above I also use gg.deals but they also list some shadier stores. With that said I haven't had any issues with the handful of games I have purchased.

Also pay attention to if the key is an actual key versus an account. A normal key can be added to your library. An account is just a random account with a game or service. I bought a game pass sub for x-mas but the darn thing was an account so my nephew couldn't add it to his existing xbox account.

Is anno 1404 any good? Been playing 1800 and my wife seemed interested. If 1404 decent I will have her try it. Then maybe get 1800 when it is on sale.
