Just picked up a ugreen adapter for like two bucks more but it has consistent issues being recognized by Windows. Not really sure if it's my USB or the adapter but having another one to swap out would be useful.

@phoinix - you delete the size of bed from your bed frame post and the Wifi speed from your wifi adapter post. I take it SD gets paid for each click when people have to click to woot to look for themselves to find the info that should be in the title?
It's AC1300 for anyone wondering.

In the description is reads: not recommended for Linux Mac system

So I'd assume very few if any Linux drivers as of right now. The drivers that do exist might be unstable with this particular low budget adapter. In the future MAYBE there MIGHT be stable drivers but I'd not hold your breath.

Looks like an OK deal for anyone who just needs a brand new USB wifi adapter. With Windows 10 or 11 these things are always giving me little annoying issues. Usually resolved by simply moving it from one USB port to a different USB port. Had same issues regardless of motherboard CPU and chipset. Seems to be something with how Windows 10/11 handle USB connected network adapters. I only use these on tablets or laptops where it would be a huge pain to open them up to swap out the wifi chipset.

Is this the only use case for these? I can't imagine using one rather than just installing a wifi card (or finding some other better option).

This happens to me too, and seems so arbitrary: why would changing ports make any difference? These dongles are private labeled from probably one Chinese factory, manifesting in dozens of different brands. Maybe it's just shitty hardware, period. Hard to tell since it generally works, albeit unreliably. Exact same design/enclosure/tech/hardware that they've been churning since one-half decade ago, zero R&D.

There's not really any shortage of use cases for these.

A m2 or pcie WiFi card is generally a better choice, or ethernet of course, but the usb adapters in general work fine for what they are, and they are easy to install and move around.

It is useful to buy one with a standardized chipset, however -- if the drivers have to be downloaded from the Internet and you need the device to give you Internet access, that's a problem -- so the "not recommended for Linux" part gives me pause, as that suggests weird drivers.

I have a 2019 dell Inspiron 3000 laptop barely used less than 5 times. It got blue screen issue and current WiFi built in unable to download new windows 11.supposedly if has issue with the google mesh system I have. So I have to get an external WiFi adapter which may or may not be able finally connect. Any recommendations smaller one for laptop use and more portable?

does it have an ethernet port? I would just hard wire it to your router for that. or put the windows installer on a thumb drive.

Yeah those are options but seems the WiFi adapter needs to replaced anyways I believe since it won't connect to my mesh router or maybe windows 11 when installed may work normally ,not sure

Some retro handheld need to use one for certain features if no internal wlan, and sometimes it's easier to locate the antenna in a good location using an usb or antenna extension cord.

Chipset is Realtek, 8812bu works on w11

Forgive my ignorance I am not tech savvy . I recently got a ps5 , I'm pretty far away from my router and get laggy play if I stream or slow download time. I'd like to improve my connection, I do not really want to move my router. I have considered running some cat 6 cable router to ps5. I looked at WiFi extenders but based on research people say there a waste of time for my use. I'd like something plug and play. Can anyone recommend something?

Try disabling USB selective suspend, and power saving on the USB hubs in device manager, and on the NIC itself. Otherwise, it might be processor idle (C-states) causing that.
