Don't fall for this trap people.
This is literally the same product as 100 other laser levels available on Amazon for $10-15. There's absolutely nothing about it that warrants 2x the price AND SD status.
There's some weird bot/shill thing going on with it being thumbed up that SD staff allows instead of banning them.

Got this last week... love it! Helped me put up some DIY bar shelves a contractor quoted $5k to do. Did it for $700 in materials in a weekend.

Can you please share some links? When I search for rechargeable self leveling laser level on Amazon for less than $25, I get zero hits.
I've been interested in this deal, but haven't pulled the trigger because I have a basic laser level already and I'm not sure if I want to drop $30 on something that is only slightly better than what I have. I'd bite for half that.

This might be obvious to others but after buying one of these types of levels I realized you cannot angle them up or down. You can but one or two degrees. This means if you want to project a straight line five feet up a wall, say to hang a tv or picture frames, then you need a tripod that can go that high up. That's not typically in people's "toolbox".
This is not how a laser level is supposed to work. To project a straight horizontal line on a wall at a different height, the laser level needs to be positioned stricktly perpendicular to the wall. This is almost impossible to achieve without help from another high precision measurement tool.

Thank you for validating my understanding.

I bought this before for more and don't regret it one bit. It's solid. I added a tripod (I think 6 foot one) and last night put up several ikea peg boards and this thing was AMAZING for making it fast and level.

Sort of true and sort of not true, depending on what your definition of "straight" line is. You can tip it upwards to project a line upwards on a wall, but in doing so, you will need to put it in locked, or manual mode, which turns off the leveling function. So yeah it will project "straight" lines at whatever orientation it is held in, they just won't be "level" unless the unit is held exactly level.
Some people may actually want to tip it upwards to project a straight line between two points on a wall, knowing they aren't level with eachother. This CAN do that.
