The Basic kit looks like it only includes the engraver. I would suggest eye protection. A way to vent the fumes from the work area. A honeycomb bed, and air assist to help with cutting(often will have scorch marks on what you are engraving/cutting). And as one other person mentioned, the software Lightburn. The free trial does not have any restrictions other than the amount of time it can be used. The more expensive kits look like they come with some of these things.

You will also need some things to engrave. Amazon is a decent place for thin cork sheets, thin wood for engraving/cutting, and slate for coasters or small signs.

This is a diode laser. The wavelength is not suitable for metals at all, even when used with a 60-100W module. Diode lasers are good for wood or opaque polymers (Need CO2 for clear ones). To engrave or cut metals you need a Fiber or UV laser.

I had some sort of $15 offer if I paid using the Shop app (don't know if it's targeted) and another $4.95 off using WELCOME5, so price was $79.05 after discounts. Thanks!

MSRP $299 must be a joke, I think this is a fair deal at best.

Admittedly I haven't used it up to it's full potential but this unit is solid.

Ugh, you and me both. I'm making an effort to get rid of more stuff than I bring into my house. Now I need to throw two things out!

It might be able to do aluminum but it will be limited to flat surfaces on polymer, the curve of a front handguard for a longer pewpew is going to be tough due to the curve of them. Polymer should be no problem as long as it is flat. I read that there is a learning curve to it and the software that comes with it is, a bit difficult to use, but Lightburn is a much easier to use program.
I was looking at this for aluminum and steel but from what I read you need a 20w laser engraver for most metals.

Is this strong enough to engrave plastic and metal name badges? If not, what should I be looking for?
