You will also need some things to engrave. Amazon is a decent place for thin cork sheets, thin wood for engraving/cutting, and slate for coasters or small signs.
Community Reviews
This Falcon 5W diode laser looks like a solid starter engraver for wood, opaque plastics, painted metal, and other flat materials. The community notes it can remove paint from metal tags, mark stainless steel by discoloring or coating removal, and handle simple projects like labels and small signs. Setup often needs extras such as eye protection, ventilation, a honeycomb bed, and air assist, and LightBurn is repeatedly favored over the included software. The main limit is power, since 5W is too weak for true metal engraving or cutting and curved surfaces are harder. A practical pick if you want to learn laser engraving without jumping to a higher power machine.
Common Questions (5)
LightBurn is not required, but it is widely preferred because the included software is described as harder to use. The free trial has no feature lockout beyond usage time, and a full license may need to be budgeted separately.
It will not etch chrome or most metals directly. It can discolor or remove paint/coating on painted metal, and metal-marking sprays like CerMark may help, but 5W 455nm diode lasers still struggle with true metal engraving.
It is best suited for wood, opaque polymers, thin cork, thin wood, slate, and similar materials. Flat polymer surfaces are workable, but curved parts are difficult, and 5W power is limited for heavier cutting jobs.
Yes, CFNY10 or CFNY8 can stack with WELCOME5, and shoppers reported prices like $79.05, $89.10, and $170 before tax on the 10W version. A separate 10% code may cancel out when combined with another 10% coupon.
It can blind you, start fires, and produce harmful fumes from unsafe materials like PVC, so it should be attended or placed in a safe burn-down area. Eye protection, an enclosure, and proper ventilation are strongly recommended, and certified laser safety glasses are preferred over the included cheap pair.

I have a couple and do small projects with them. This one will not etch metal, but it will etch the paint off painted metal. It should be able to burn designs into wood.
Most people upgrade the software to LightBurn. (I don't know what software it comes with. I have an Atomstack)
It costs the same as the engraver unit, but it's not necessary.
It will not etch chrome directly. You would need a spray like CerMark. The laser then bonds it to the metal. CerMark and the other sprays are $25+ a can.
That said, CerMark states that 455nm 5w diode lasers do struggle with this task. So, YMMV

coupon codes stack. i tried adding the 10% coupon code listed above, but it negated when trying to stack with the 10% off one.
