This is still a great value, but it's slightly less of a no-brainer when you can get a new one for 2000 or a few bucks less with some freebies thrown in on most of the major camera sites as it's rebate eligible right now. Tempted to pull the trigger with the extended warranty and use the bread pay 12 mo 0%...

This is an excellent deal. I would definitely buy this if I was starting from scratch today. Unfortunately I think it would be too expensive to unload all my fuji gear as used.

Most of those freebies the camera sites give you are absolute junk such as the bags and sd cards. Saving $400 on a Nikon refurbished is absolutely worth it. I have ordered a decent amount of lenses and bodies from their refurbished sales and every single one has come in like new condition with basically nothing on the shutter counts.

This is an amazing camera for the price.

That's true. But there are "bundle savings" that could eat in the $400 difference - for example, BH/Nikon gives you another $100 off if you buy the 24-120 f4s together (, which is very to get one as Nikon refurbished.) So you are really using extra $300 to buy a year of warranty.

Fuji gear still fetches good prices especially if you're selling private party. I bought most of my fuji gear second hand from private parties and when I decided to move to the Nikon Z series, I was able to sell to one of the used camera gear sites at 90 percent of what I paid, though YMMV.

With refurb, you never really know if you're getting a good deal. The first one I got was $1,495, but it came with a dead battery and 300,000 mechanical shutter counts, so I returned it. Then I got another one for $1,511, and that one came with only 3,800 shutter counts.

Are we talking about Nikon factory refurbs, because I've never seen anyone get one with more than a few thousand clicks, and in as new condition. What you're describing sounds more like 3rd party "refurb" or just plain used cameras.

Especially at those prices, probably 3rd party. However my Z8 Nikon refurb needed to go back to fix the in body stabilizer, which took about 10 days. Still was a killer deal.

Wow, that's a lot of camera for $1600. Even at $2000 the Z6iii is a really good value. I've loved seeing Nikon's comeback the last few years.

This or a Z50II? Pretty much strictly for wildlife. (birding)
Everything I've seen says Z50ii due to crop factor, auto focus etc. Pairing with the 180-600 lens.

AF should be similar, the Z6 has more points and better low light but the z50 probably has more points per "area". Crop Factor is going to be a big advantage in most cases though this is 20% higher resolution so you have some extra pixels to work with to crop in post. Biggest advantages with this will be higher FPS in any mode, dual card slots, better EVF, better battery life, better low light performance, faster maximum shutter speed, IBIS (though I don't know that will matter much at long focal lengths anyways but nice to be able to use cheap knock around lenses at shorter focal lengths since the lens doesn't need VR).

Z50II is more like the budget choice. Most people treat it as a capable second body for wildlife/birding along side Z6III/Z8/Z9. ( Z50II + 180-600 gives a good reach, but you might need to dial up ISO …)

Thank you for the reply and all of the information. It seems there's trade off at both options, I just need to figure out my priorities.
It would be nice to just go with a Z8 and the 180-600, however the 5k price tag is just too much at this time for me. For reference I'm currently using a D3300 and sigma 100-400 contemporary. I do wish I had more reach than my current effective 600 range, as I'm doing a good bit of cropping in PL9 with my shots now.
Thanks again for the input, I really appreciate it.
looking more into this the Z6iii is the better camera. With the DX crop I can get that extra range and it should still be at a higher MP than the z50ii.. Better in low light, battery, sps, etc..

Refurbished Z6II only for $930.

But for my money, I would get Z5II instead - which is Z6II with Expeed 7 more or less.
