They removed gold hardware as an option on a build I had saved.

Great deal if this is true for all options. Many options add at least $100 to the price

Good deal for anyone who was considering a Mod Shop guitar. One could still build a guitar with the same parts for less cash, but that's obviously its own project.
Some configurations I played around with if anyone is looking for inspiration:
Strat in White Blonde Ash with obnoxious gold hardware and a roasted maple neck: https://www.fender.com/products/m...d=LFYD9X8W
Tele in Butterscotch Blonde Ash: https://www.fender.com/products/m...d=VDXL242H
Jazzmaster in Dark Night with AVRI pickups and a rosewood neck: https://www.fender.com/products/m...d=4JBF6HLA
Jaguar in Ocean Turquoise with a rosewood neck: https://www.fender.com/products/m...d=MP95W4HN
P Bass in Charcoal Frost Metallic with CS '62 pickups: https://www.fender.com/products/m...d=WVS9XNYJ

It's time for the lefty Strat with 52 custom nocasters. Really struggling with color. Want mahogany but don't want the extra weight / the translucent red does nothing for me. I think the pine green metallic is going to win.

Always liked the idea of the mod shop, but it's expensive and not really that configurable. It's just so much cheaper to buy a Player II and upgrade the things you want.

Was toying around options on the model shop as well, but in the end I ended up just dropping a bunch of high end parts into my mim strat ive had since the 90s.
I know resale value will be crap, but I dont plan on selling it. Have since sold all other "higher end" strats

Some colors don't come around often enough. I think that's the main benefit for the mod shop. Most parts can be user upgraded but a refinish is kind of a pain.

Very restrictive instruments from the 50s. Zero innovation after Leo Fender sold it. You would be better off with a Super Start with set-in/neck-thru 24 frets compound radius neck, or a headless guitar.

In for a shell pink tele with solid rosewood neck, twisted tele pickups and locking tuners. Skipped the Biggby.

Mod Shop guitars are great but if you want to resell, they are basically considered partscasters by the music community. You'll lose your shirt based on what you paid for.

Bottom line, buy it for you and make sure it's a "keeper" guitar.
