My concern with this deal is related to the toner cartridge that comes with it.

If it is labeled as a "Refresh Ready" cartridge (which, as it read it it is), canceling the "free trial" subscription toner service will instantly kill the toner cartridge in the printer and force you to buy another one at retail. Brother doesn't say if this is the case anywhere in their documentation, and it also avoids explicitly saying anywhere on the web page if the "free trial" subscription enrollment is required or not to use the printer.

I think I'd be asking Brother about that before I bought this.

Brother laser printers are the best! We ran multi business with Brother MFC-L2700DW series and it ran like a champion! These things are a work horse! We tried other printers that were a lot more but they simply couldn't do the job! I just went ahead and purchased 6 to backup what we have!

Costco reviews suggest that toner subscription is not required if you read the fine print carefully during the initial setup and don't blindly say "Yes/Agree" to everything in a rush.

If you don't want to buy a refurbished unit,
Costco has the new ones on sale for $229.99:

Costco reviews seem to say that scanning to a computer and Wi-Fi set up are doable but not easy for everyone.

Was anyone able to get this deal? at 12:25 PM (NY time) I tried on Brother's site and it keeps on freezing during the "add to cart" phase. I tried from a Win 11 Pro PC on Chrome, Firefox, and LibreWolf. Same behavior on all three browsers. Try to add to cart and get a spinny that never quits.

Similar behavior in Safari on iPhone but in this case it moves to the cart okay, but when I add all the payment data and click "Buy" it again sits forever while saying "Processing". Success stories in the last hour or two - say after 10:30 AM NY time?

Saw your message and tried with Microsoft Edge. Added to cart within 2 seconds with no issues. Hope that helps. Brother's website has always been a little clunky.

I'm on Windows 10, by the way, with Microsoft's extended support which ends in October. I don't know if that makes a difference but worth mentioning.

Many thanks! It turns out when I disabled my ad blocker (uBlock Origin), things went much better. Thanks again!

Sweet! Enjoy the new printer. I have a similar older model Brother (MFCL2685DW) for about the last 5 years and it's a great little workhorse.

Even on a $220 printer they don't give you duplex scanning. I don't know why they make it such a "premium" feature. Duplex printing feels more premium than scanning

I am in for 1, my 18 year old Brother laser is still chugging along but dropped the latest MacOS support. Hopefully this one is at least 1/2 as good as that one.

If you sign up for their email marketing, you get another $20 off which I did.

After reading their return policy and speaking to an agent I wouldn't buy a printer from Brother's site unless I absolutely knew for sure I wasn't going to return it. Per their policy they only allow returns for defective items. If you bought the wrong printer or just didn't like it, too bad. Then the other problem is they don't offer free returns. You have to pay for return shipping. And these printer boxes are big and heavy (this one is 27 lbs). A quick check on Pirate Ship says the cheapest shipping for this printer is UPS Ground $58 to their (probable) warehouse in Tennessee.

They also charge a 15% restocking fee which I'm sure they will charge you since you opened the box and a ton of packaging material as well as installing the toner cartridge. In fact they might consider the used toner a consumable and deduct the cost of it from your refund.

These deals from Brother-USA are only good if there's a huge discount b/c it's refurbished and you don't plan on ever returning it. Other than that it's just safer to buy from a store that allows free & easy returns.

Depending on what combination of OS and printer you have, it can still work, albeit unsupported.

I don't know about Tahoe, but Sequoia (on Intel, at least) still supports the old CUPS printing architecture and drivers.

Brother support for my 14-year old printer officially ended with Catalina, but those drivers can be installed and still work fine in Sequoia, and with a bit more digging, are available from the support site.

You do lose the old 32-bit Brother apps like Control Center, but the printer and scanner drivers are fine.

I'm tempted every time one of these deals pop up, but until the final nail is put in the coffin, and AirPrint becomes the only option, I resist.

Duplex scanning is the real treat. Everyone offers duplex printing - and often at even better deals, and for new devices - not refurbished.
The first time you need to scan both sides of a 50-page document will be enough to see the benefit.
