If it is labeled as a "Refresh Ready" cartridge (which, as it read it it is), canceling the "free trial" subscription toner service will instantly kill the toner cartridge in the printer and force you to buy another one at retail. Brother doesn't say if this is the case anywhere in their documentation, and it also avoids explicitly saying anywhere on the web page if the "free trial" subscription enrollment is required or not to use the printer.
I think I'd be asking Brother about that before I bought this.

Costco has the new ones on sale for $229.99:

Costco reviews seem to say that scanning to a computer and Wi-Fi set up are doable but not easy for everyone.

Similar behavior in Safari on iPhone but in this case it moves to the cart okay, but when I add all the payment data and click "Buy" it again sits forever while saying "Processing". Success stories in the last hour or two - say after 10:30 AM NY time?

I'm on Windows 10, by the way, with Microsoft's extended support which ends in October. I don't know if that makes a difference but worth mentioning.

If you sign up for their email marketing, you get another $20 off which I did.
They also charge a 15% restocking fee which I'm sure they will charge you since you opened the box and a ton of packaging material as well as installing the toner cartridge. In fact they might consider the used toner a consumable and deduct the cost of it from your refund.
These deals from Brother-USA are only good if there's a huge discount b/c it's refurbished and you don't plan on ever returning it. Other than that it's just safer to buy from a store that allows free & easy returns.

I don't know about Tahoe, but Sequoia (on Intel, at least) still supports the old CUPS printing architecture and drivers.
Brother support for my 14-year old printer officially ended with Catalina, but those drivers can be installed and still work fine in Sequoia, and with a bit more digging, are available from the support site.
You do lose the old 32-bit Brother apps like Control Center, but the printer and scanner drivers are fine.
I'm tempted every time one of these deals pop up, but until the final nail is put in the coffin, and AirPrint becomes the only option, I resist.

The first time you need to scan both sides of a 50-page document will be enough to see the benefit.
