They are cleaned and pads replaced. Tbh, most of mine ordered could pass as new. I normally order through Ebay to get the 2 yr warranty included.

Yup I tried to warranty one before, and tried getting free replacement ear tips for another
Both times, sony support replied and said:
"After reviewing the serial number you provided, we found out your unit is flagged as recycled in our database. These units are usually sold by our warehouse to dealers as refurbished/reconditioned with no warranty coverage from the manufacturer. "

Likely "like new" but still going to wait for a deal on their ebay store to get the 2yr warranty

Sony's refurbished WF 1000XM6 earbuds are drawing praise for near new condition and strong sound, with several reports that the units arrive cleaned, reset, and hard to distinguish from new. The biggest draw is improved noise cancelling and a more secure fit than the XM5, along with battery charge limit support and sound that needs little or no EQ. The main tradeoffs are the larger earbud and case size, a short 90 day warranty, and no Sony manufacturer coverage on refurbished units. Replacement tips may be needed for fit or comfort, making this a solid value if the warranty limits do not matter.

Common Questions (5)

  • Sony does not provide manufacturer warranty coverage for these refurbished units, and support can flag them as recycled/refurbished with no warranty coverage. A 2-year Allstate/SquareTrade warranty is available on some eBay listings from Secondipity, which is why some buyers wait for that version.

  • Yes, replacement tips can be ordered, and many users swap the stock foam tips for silicone or Comply tips to improve comfort, cleanliness, or fit. Foam tips can seal better for ANC, while silicone tips may feel better and are easier to clean.

    MaximusPegasushungarianhciGrenadehart316

  • The XM6 is a newer model and this refurb price is about half off MSRP, but the XM5 is still a solid cheaper option if you do not need the latest design or slightly better ANC. If your current buds work fine, some buyers would skip the upgrade; if you need replacement earbuds now, the XM6 refurb is considered a strong value.

  • The XM6 has a larger earbud and case than the XM5, but the new design can fit more securely and stay put better during movement. ANC is reported as improved over the XM5, though tip choice still matters a lot for seal and noise blocking.

  • The refurb units can arrive cleaned, with replaced pads/tips, and often look brand new with no obvious signs of use. A factory reset is still a good idea before pairing, especially if the previous owner's device tracking is still linked.

Still have the XM3 buds and the sound quality is amazing. Do these have significantly better sound quality?
the XM3 over-ears had less of an improvement between XM4 or XM5, probably XM6(but I don't actually know). However, the buds changed design with the XM4 and were definitively better. The XM5 was a bit of a downgrade even if some things were improved, and now the XM6 has a new design again.

That said, I would argue XM3's are why this lineup has the good general reputation it does, so unless they're broken, I wouldn't upgrade. If my XM4 buds didn't stop charging I wouldn't be on here

You can always order replacement tips
FYI I have the prior version and the foam tips are horrible feeling. Love the sound, but I replaced them with the soft silicone tips. The sony app audio ear tip test passed, and they fell much better. I have an iPhone, but the sound of these are amazing.

Foam tips are such a relatively high cost consumable. I personally opt for a good set of silicone tips. The sound signature gets altered to be usually more mids/highs biased as a result but I'm not a basshead anyway.
Agree! I did the same

Ordered, will report back the condition. The problem I see it says no returns on open items.
You have a 30-day window to return your item. Ensure it remains unused and in its original condition.

Love my xm5's. Had the xm4s that I liked but had the battery drain issue. May give my 5s to the wife if these turn out better. Thanks OP.

I'd probably hop on these if I hadn't bought the XM5s for $115 a few months ago of eBay. The 90 day warranty bothers me though. Will probably pick these up when they drop to this price with 2 year Allstate warranty on eBay. I had to get aftermarket silicone tips for my XM5s before they fit me correctly. Once the fit was right, though, I really liked them.

Which tips did you get? I got the SednaEarFit Max ASMR tips as I wanted tips I could clean but they don't seal as well as the foam tips which I went back to. The XM5s don't fit as well as other cheaper buds I have, not sure if that's only due to the tips or the large bulbous size of the buds as well.

Incredible price even if they don't come with a warranty. I've had pretty good luck with Secondipity headphones via eBay, so I'll bite at this price for headphones that released ~2 months ago for half off MSRP.

Already refurbished on market? This model just came out and the previous model is still solid for a lot less. Get WF-1000XM5
