They are cleaned and pads replaced. Tbh, most of mine ordered could pass as new. I normally order through Ebay to get the 2 yr warranty included.

Yup I tried to warranty one before, and tried getting free replacement ear tips for another
Both times, sony support replied and said:
"After reviewing the serial number you provided, we found out your unit is flagged as recycled in our database. These units are usually sold by our warehouse to dealers as refurbished/reconditioned with no warranty coverage from the manufacturer. "

the XM3 over-ears had less of an improvement between XM4 or XM5, probably XM6(but I don't actually know). However, the buds changed design with the XM4 and were definitively better. The XM5 was a bit of a downgrade even if some things were improved, and now the XM6 has a new design again.

That said, I would argue XM3's are why this lineup has the good general reputation it does, so unless they're broken, I wouldn't upgrade. If my XM4 buds didn't stop charging I wouldn't be on here

I'd probably hop on these if I hadn't bought the XM5s for $115 a few months ago of eBay. The 90 day warranty bothers me though. Will probably pick these up when they drop to this price with 2 year Allstate warranty on eBay. I had to get aftermarket silicone tips for my XM5s before they fit me correctly. Once the fit was right, though, I really liked them.

Which tips did you get? I got the SednaEarFit Max ASMR tips as I wanted tips I could clean but they don't seal as well as the foam tips which I went back to. The XM5s don't fit as well as other cheaper buds I have, not sure if that's only due to the tips or the large bulbous size of the buds as well.

Incredible price even if they don't come with a warranty. I've had pretty good luck with Secondipity headphones via eBay, so I'll bite at this price for headphones that released ~2 months ago for half off MSRP.
