I was going to bite. BB has it on sale ($217) and you can get 15% off with an old router, making it 35 bucks more for new and longer warranty.

I bought this router earlier this month when it was on sale for 190 new on amazon. I didn't want to believe the comments that the software was glitchy and the router would need resetting. Some users reported after updating to the last firmware it worked better so I decided to try it out and flash the custom firmware Merlin which works flawlessly on my AX86U Pro. Started having dropped connections and lag when trying to load a new page. Ended up returning it this past Monday since it was still in within the return window. I wouldn't buy this model for $50 if it went on sale for that price today.

$218 new. Only a savings of $68 and only 90 days warranty versus 3 years new. The savings is not worth losing almost 3 years of support. I just bought a BE86U and have a AX86U and am not disappointed with it's speed and VPN capabilities. Didn't need tri-band.

This is a good deal for a WiFi 7 router with VLAN capabilities. I have a much more expensive ASUS router, and recently- when I went to check for new firmware I got some notices that they want to capture and sell my personal data. I do not agree, and I bought and paid for my router almost a year ago. So, I am going to paste the first part of what one Amazon reviewer said about this BE9700: This is nice looking and solid built router and when on special deal good price for what it promises. but as far as delivering, well it falls way too short. 1st it's data collecting spyware software and if you don't agree to Asus terms of collecting your data, you 're not able to upgrade the firmware and so many other things will be disabled.
That's basically the warning ASUS gives you along with their ultimatum to take your personal data or not be able to fully use the router you bought. Now, well after I've paid over $300 for their product- they insist on taking what's mine.

Would things change if the stock firmware gets updated with something like Asus Merlin? It's what I did with this model but I'm no expert.

Good tip. Newegg has it for the same price and also offered me a 10% coupon for telling them what router I use. Might be the better deal for keeping or reselling your old router.

I have this router and it's better than the previous mesh network I had. Once after setting up custom names and such for devices the power went out and erased all of my effort. That sucked. Other than that it's better than a lot of routers I've been through in the past but could be a bit better I'm sure.

Id be careful buying the refurb because it might be an older revision that many have reported to have serious stability issues. I got in on the last best buy deal plus 15% off with trade in. I got the latest hw rev 6 and its been very stable. Ive only had one issue and it was asus smartconnect transferring between 5 and 6ghz networks. Dont know if its asus smartconnect or the router or my phone. Just turned that off and have my devices not roam between 5 and 6ghz bands and its rock solid. Running all 3 bands including wifi 7 at 6ghz 320mhz bandwidth. But I only use it as an AP with asusmerlin firmware. I also dont use MLO which is a big feature of wifi 7. It is advised to turn off MLO on this router. I think for alot people, youd prefer to not use MLO anyways.

I have this router. It is incredibly disappointing and the 6ghz band is incredibly weak. I use it as a second mesh node only now. I run an BE88U which doesn't have the triband on 6ghz. Using this as the second node adds the 6ghz band and it's a lot stronger for some reason.

You sufficiently scared me off. I have an AX-92U and thought this would be as solid but it sounds like it's not. Canceled my order. At minimum the Newegg deal would be better to keep the 3 year warranty in case there are hardware issues.
